Baton Rouge Comm. College (BRCC) 2013 acceptance letters

U.S.A. Louisiana

Does BRCC still mail out acceptance letters in June??? I'm eager to know!! If so, I have a long wait!

I would get the two money orders first and take the $10 one to the place they suggest to get your fingerprints done. I went yesterday and it was quick and easy (also saw three other people that will be in our class while I was there). And those are the two things that are due first.

That's what I plan on doing. I'm taking my CPR class next Wednesday at school. Going to try and knock everything out by next week!

Is it (2) $10 money orders???

Oh no! One of then is $62.50. Are you picking up your packet today? It tells you everything in there. I still have alot of questions even after getting the packet! It says nothing about books or when our classes will be. I have a non nursing class that I have no idea when to schedule it since I don't know when our fundamentals class will be :( Looks like ill be calling today to find these things out! Looking forward to meeting everyone!

I'm in the same boat!

I need to schedule my other classes, but don't know when to schedule them for. :\

I really thought the packets would have more information in them about classes and/or books.

I seriously thought about not accepting the spot because I've got other classes to take and since I have no information its hard to plan (and with three kids- I need to plan as much as I can!!)

Hey me too! See you there!

Anyone else taking the June 18 CPR class from BRCC?

I'll be there Wednesday!

:)

I have my CPR license. It doesn't expire until 7/2014. I went on my lunch break to get my packet!! WE have a lot to do!

I've spent the past two days doing packet-related things. Here are the tips/info I have if anyone's interested:

  • I got my insurance online from NSO, it's $37/year.
  • You don't need your old immunization records with the titers. And the physical/shots/blood work is super expensive ($200-$300).
  • For the scrubs, I would go to Uniforms by Bayou instead of Classic Image Uniforms because the latter doesn't have the polo shirt that you need to order. They also didn't have the list of supplies we need when I went yesterday.
  • For the books, go to this link. Select Fall '13, NURS, 110, then 'Get course materials' and it will give you the list. I got mine from Amazon.
  • I know the classes will be in the morning. I think last year it was Tues & Wed 8-10:30 (ish) and Thursday and Friday 6:30-1 (ish). Just to give you an idea! I have another class to schedule as well, so I'm just going to schedule it at night to be on the safe side.

Wow thanks! Where did you get the physical/shot/blood work done? And we have to have every one of the books that says "required" on the list? Going to look on amazon tonight!

I guess so. But I have a friend that's going into her second year and she said she hasn't used the Comp. Handbook of Lab & Diagnostic tests or the dictionary, for what it's worth. And that list doesn't say that the Fundamentals Success book is required, but our packet says we're suppose to bring that book to our orientation.

I got my physical and shots at a clinic in Clinton, then they sent me to a hospital for the blood work.

I thought I'd add more tips too for those just starting on the packet:

  • Fingerprinting: As others have said, bring a $10 money order or cashier's check to Louisiana State Police (7901 Independence Blvd). They close at 4:00pm, and say not to arrive after 3:45!! (For you 9-to-5ers!)
  • Liability Insurance: I signed up for NSNA (National Student Nurse Association) Home It's $35 membership for the first year. But you get discounts on NCLEX prep materials/books, discounts at an online scrub/supply store, at office depot, and a few other places. Also if you buy your from NSO through them (it's still $37/yr) you get 50% off NSO insurance as a nurse when you graduate. Also NSO will email, fax, or mail your certificate so you can get it fast!
  • Health Records/Immunizations: I called and got prices at the places listed. (Prices listed are for EVERYTHING unless noted)
The First One on the List (forgot the name): $199 for everything but HIV, add $58.50 to include it.
Capital City Family Health Center: You have to go in to get a direct quote, they won't give you one over the phone. It can be anywhere between $25 - 277 depending on your income and insurance.
    Total Occupational Medicine: $300 - 400 (ouch)
  • Scrubs: I would also go to Uniforms by Bayou. They have the list of supplies (available in many many different colors! :3) and are super helpful and nice. I got EVERYTHING that's required (incl. monogramming) for about $160
  • Classes: I just dropped off a bunch of stuff and asked about classes. She told me the nursing classes will be in the mornings, so schedule anything else in the afternoons only. They make the schedule in late July.

I made an appt. w/ my PCP Friday afternoon. I'll go get fingerprints done tomorrow.
