  1. According to our handbook (which you should be able to pull up on brcc's website in the nursing section), they allow us to wear long sleeve black or white shirts under our scrub tops when it's cold. We also have a long sleeve lab coat, so I'm sure you'd be fine. I also would think they've probably had people in your same position before. Hope that helps! :)
  2. @Tigers27 The store I got my shoes from is called Design Resources on Essen. They had a good selection. I got the email with the handbook on 8/5. I would check to make sure they have the right email address for you.
  3. $287 yikes! I've gotten all my books but the Fundamentals bundle. I think I'm just going to wait to see what they say about it on Friday. I got my shoes from the uniform/nursing supply shop on Essen Ln. I told them I wanted the cheapest pair of all white, leather shoes haha. That turned out to be $50 Cherokee clogs that are pretty ugly but feel fantastic! You can definitely find cheaper online but you can't try them on first, of course. Cherokee sizes run weird apparently, I ended up a whole size smaller then normal! So I'm glad I paid a bit more and got them in person.
  4. I agree. I heard from one of the professors that this year had the lowest amount of applicants since they started. They are very clear that they use a point-based ranking system. I even managed to peek at the ranked list when I went down there two weeks ago.
  5. The watch is probably like the khakis and shoes- we need it but a lot of people probably already have one so they're not too strict on forcing us to prove proof of purchase. At least that's how it sounds to me. I'll probably pick up a cheap one eventually.
  6. The scrub shop (Bayou) gave me a copy of the equipment list. This is pretty much exactly what it says: EQUIPMENT PACKAGE $49.95 (Sold Separately $64.95) -Clinical Lite Stethoscope -Bandage Scissors w/ Colored Handle -Pen Light - Disposable -Hemostat -Blood Pressure Unit Economy Safety Goggles +$6.95 The discounted price for the steth was $20, so hopefully you can save that! They told me shoes MUST be 1) All White; 2) Leather; 3) Full Front and Back (no slip-ons, etc) Bayou does give 10% off "professional priced shoes" for us. But I think I'm going to shop online and try to get a discontinued style at a clearance price.
  7. I got the polo at Uniforms by Bayou and it was $19-something + $5-something for monogramming (which is the BRCC nursing discount price). The lab coat was the same exact price.
  8. Correction on the Health Requirements!! BRG Family Health Center: the $199 actually only covers the physical and titers. Vaccines are additional charges (Varicella=$98, HepB=96, MMR=53, CBC=no charge, HIV Test=$58.50) Capitol City Family Health Center: Physical $25-227, Titers & TB test $19-20/ea Total Occupational Medicine: The quote is closer to $460 Sorry about that! But I thought I'd update what I learned as I'm a part-time worker with no health ins so these health charges are a huge deal to me!! Also thanks to everyone else who's posting information! It's so nice to have everything in one spot :)
  9. I thought I'd add more tips too for those just starting on the packet: Fingerprinting: As others have said, bring a $10 money order or cashier's check to Louisiana State Police (7901 Independence Blvd). They close at 4:00pm, and say not to arrive after 3:45!! (For you 9-to-5ers!) Liability Insurance: I signed up for NSNA (National Student Nurse Association) Home It's $35 membership for the first year. But you get discounts on NCLEX prep materials/books, discounts at an online scrub/supply store, at office depot, and a few other places. Also if you buy your liability insurance from NSO through them (it's still $37/yr) you get 50% off NSO insurance as a nurse when you graduate. Also NSO will email, fax, or mail your certificate so you can get it fast! Health Records/Immunizations: I called and got prices at the places listed. (Prices listed are for EVERYTHING unless noted) The First One on the List (forgot the name): $199 for everything but HIV, add $58.50 to include it. Capital City Family Health Center: You have to go in to get a direct quote, they won't give you one over the phone. It can be anywhere between $25 - 277 depending on your income and insurance. Total Occupational Medicine: $300 - 400 (ouch) Scrubs: I would also go to Uniforms by Bayou. They have the list of supplies (available in many many different colors! :3) and are super helpful and nice. I got EVERYTHING that's required (incl. monogramming) for about $160 Classes: I just dropped off a bunch of stuff and asked about classes. She told me the nursing classes will be in the mornings, so schedule anything else in the afternoons only. They make the schedule in late July.
  10. Hey me too! See you there! Anyone else taking the June 18 CPR class from BRCC?
  11. I don't know anyone personally, but when I picked up my info packet I was told that we have several deadlines to meet before August. We absolutely MUST have the indicated item done by the date or we could lose our position. Also we had to return the letter with our intent to accept by June 12. Some people might have applied to more than one school or changed their mind and won't accept. So it seems to me that there are a lot of opportunities for people to miss a deadline or otherwise lose their spot. Hope that helps!
  12. I had a 4.0 GPA, 98 HESI score, and took all my classes at BRCC. When I went to the nursing school yesterday to accept and get my info packet they told me my Rank was 1. I was so excited and shocked! I've been working my butt off all semester I'm so glad to see it pay off. Congrats to everyone else! I can't wait to meet you all this fall!! :)
  13. I just got my acceptance letter!!! I'm so excited! I wasn't expecting it till next week. If you live inside BR you'll probably be seeing it today, too. Good luck to everyone and hopefully we'll be seeing each other soon!
