I JUST GOT ACCEPTED TO BAPTIST AND WILL BE STARTING THIS FALL. I AM SO EXCITED. I WAS WANTING TO KNOW IF ANYONE COULD TELL ME WHAT TO EXPECT AT ORIENTATION AND ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES AT THE SCHOOL.
Honestly, from the quality of students that were in the two classes I took at Baptist last semester, I'd have to say the applicant pool is not very competitive. I'd hate to see what the students who didn't get in were like. I was not impressed with the students or faculty at Baptist and honestly it's kind of scary that some of them are going to be nurses.
All schools have their misrepresentations. I am a student here, its not very competitive to get in the program. Staying in....well that's another deal. I love this program and I have been else where. I won't go around bashing schools like others but it is a good program. The truth is, the students that barely make it out of gen eds dont make it through the clinical rotations. Good luck on choosing your program!
Yea well I am applying to the program for the spring! I want to get my GPA up a little more! From reading these threads I am scared to apply because of the long clinical wait. But I can always apply for a job as a nurse intern at the hospital I work for. I have most of my prereq's done. So what will I do until clinical time is ready?!?! I am applying here and Southwest but I really would like a Bachelor's.
There is a clinical wait time. I have heard that some people work while they wait. In my opinion, getting in to Baptist was about as competitive as getting in to U of M. I don't know about Southwest, UT, or Union. I have been at Baptist since Fall 2007 and I am in my second clinical rotation. My graduation date is December 2010. I like the school and have to agree with one of the above statements about staying in the program once you begin clinicals. It is far tougher than I could have ever imagined but I really do like the school. There will always be negatives but I am thankful for my slot and plan to graduate on time. I hope this helps.
I think that the most competitive is the U of Memphis as far as getting in. I know several people who could not get into U of M, but were accepted into Baptist. I think that Baptist may look at the GPA from only specific courses, versus U of M who goes more on your overall GPA. Also, keep in mind that there can be a wait time for clinicals at Baptist. Once you are in U of M's program, you are in and you start nursing classes right away. There is no waiting. As far as the quality of students...I think there are good and bad students, teachers, and staff in every program. You need to know who you can go to for help and advice, and find fellow students that are like-minded and goal-oriented. That advice will help you get through any program! Good luck to all!
