Is it true that waiting months or years to take the NCLEX exam often results in higher chances of failure? This is what one of my instructors told us. She said to take NCLEX immediately and don't keep putting it off because of the amazing amount of information that can be forgotten.

BTW, I scheduled my NCLEX-PN for Tuesday December 13 at 9 o'clock in the morning. I'm feeling the pressure because this examination is so integral to my future as a nurse. I decided to 'just do it' while much of the information is still fresh inside the crevices of my astute brain.

That is true in some programs but not all. Also depends on what was covered in your program and what wasn't.

If you memorized the material, the time that it stays in your brain decreases with time. However, if you learned the material, then it will stay with you forever. That is the major thing that I have against memorizing. You need to put everything into context on how it is used. Even if you memorize lab values, you will forget them if you are not using them on a regualr basis.

A study was done by the National Council and they found that after 60 days, the likelihood of passing is in the 70th percentile. After 6 months, it drops to the 40th percentile range.

The examination of yesteryear (31 years ago)probably had no new format questions, fill-in-the-blanks, hot spot questions, and other questions that possess high degrees of difficulty. Why do they need to make everything so darn hard for the future generations? :crying2:

Sure the exam was idfferent but there was much moire patho-physiology included. The exam was two days, and all day.

Sorry, but no sympathy from me on your exam. Types of questions should make no diefference whatsoever, provided that you know and understand the material.

I say that all the time.

The new format questions are meant to be more authentic measures of competency.

The exams of the past were quite grueling from what I understand. My nurse friend who took them 30 years ago said it was a near 3 day event. The questions ranged from easy to very difficult and covered all areas of nursing. I think today's testing style is easier than a 3 day event with months of awaiting results...It would be very difficult to answer so many questions. My computer shut of at 75 and I thought it seemed liked hours of questions...imagine 3 days. The alternative and fill in the blank questions aren't that bad. I had about 15 alternate style questions and didn't think it was impossible.
