Aye "Dummie". Excuse Me!

Published

......

Well yesterday at work this LPN which by the way isnt my regular charge nurse (I got a good charge nurse she has been an RN for 30years and very respectful) any who, decided that she wanted to give me a "nickname"! All that day she was calling me something but

I couldnt catch on to what she was calling me, so after supper time after I have gotten everyone in bed she says "Aye Dummie you can go on supper break".....? Excuse ME!

I go what you just call me, she says "Dummie" and I told her in calm and respectfully way "That’s not my name, my name is D*******", and she response well I give everyone a nickname, beside who else you know going to call you "Dummie". And I say "I dont have no nickname and I dont like that nickname, so dont call me that". I told her to call me by my name or D for short. She was llike "Okay".

When I came back from supper , she went to another hall to help another nurse. Thank God cause this woman really had me heated! But anyways she comes back to the hall around 10 30pm to give the next nurse report, so before she leave to go home she says "Dummie did you get everything done". Allnurses.com I cant explain, how flippin mad that made me. I have never been disrespected like that; I was so upset I called the ADON!

When she talked to the ADON she told her that she didnt call me “dummie", she was calling me "domo". In my point of view this woman suppose to be a nurse and I feel like that was very unprofessional, she isnt my buddy I barely know her, and she only been my charge nurse twice.

By the way Im a CNA and I guess she feel that CNAs are dumb. But if thats how she feel she need to keep that to her d**n self, cause I’m not dumb Im in college( I suppose to graduate Fall 2010 but Im trying to get into a local nursing program) plus I know a lot of smart CNAs.

Wow, that is horrible. I rarely hear about a situation involving such utter disrespect! I would have absolutely Furious with a capital F!!! The mean streak in me would have been tempted to say, "I don't care if your the nurse, say that again and your gonna get slapped!"

Oh, man. Clearly the fill-in charge nurse has mental health issues. But you know what? YOU know that YOU are better than that. You handled it very professionally by calmly telling her that you don't want to be called that and to please stop, then took it up the chain when the behavior continued. I only wish you worked someplace that took such behavior as the harassment it is. "I was just kidding" does not fly as an excuse!!!

Sorry that happened to you-- just brush her off like dust on the bottom of your shoes. Best wishes as you continue on your path through nursing school!! :flwrhrts:

Write her up! Whether she called you "dummie" or "domo" you still told her to call you by your name. Yet, she didn't to do that. You should say "I'm not a dummie. Maybe I can teach you something about common decency."

Oh my gosh, I just wanna hug you for having gone through such a demeaning situation. The word that jumps to my mind is passive aggressive. Trying to pass off mean spirited behavior as "humor" or outright denying it is a rather bothersome character trait.

CNA's are NOT stupid. YOU are not stupid. You know this of course ;). By your account, you handled this situation much better than a lot of people I know (myself included). I hope you feel good about the level of professionalism you displayed. Please continue to address this issue (if it hasn't yet been resolved) by reporting this persons jaw dropping rudeness to your supervisors. I would also suggest that you note who else was in the vicinity when this person made this comment so that you might be able to enlist the aide of a possible witness.

Personally, I would be angry and hurt. Bullies have a keen sense of when they are getting under a person's skin. To the best of your ability, I would deny this person any sense of satisfaction by seeing the hurt feelings. I applaud you again, for your reactions.

Like I said, I do not believe I am currently capable of handling the situation as appropriately as you did. LOL...that's actually quite an understatement.

Hold your head high. Realize that it takes a tragically insecure person to say such things to other people. It's infuriating, yet pretty sad at the same time.

:hug:Hang in there kiddo!

Hugs to you. :) I hope you dont have to work with her again for a very long time. Good luck with nursing school, and keep your chin up. Let her be an example of what not to be when you graduate! ~Ivanna

Wow. Coming from the corporate world, if that had happened to me, I'd have a pretty big smile on my face (and a tape recorder). This would mean a successful suit against person and facility. :) This just doesn't happen on the outside of healthcare simply due to the fact. Gosh if I end up working in an area with some real "shining examples" maybe I can retire earlier than I thought!!!! SWEET! Nice to know I got that going for me (sarcasm).

I'm sorry you're working with an abusive bully. That's unacceptable behavior and she does it because she can. If it happens again in any shape or form go straight to adminstration. If they blow you off get a lawyer for hostile working conditions. After that the situation will get fixed.

Wow. How bold of her.

I would not have the gall (or the balls lol) to call someone a "dummy" as a nickname that I barely knew! I would even call my best friend that, in a joking manner, as a nickname! What the hell was she thinking?

My guess? She is a disturbed woman with a basket full of issues. She was probably having a bad day and needed a whipping boy. You were it. From now on, if she calls you Dummy, call her "Nasty" lol. No, don't stoop to her level....besides she'll get hers one day. She's gonna say that crap to the wrong girl one day, and get slapped across the teeth.

Why would you want to sue the place you work at because of one bad apple?

Did she say her work was doing absolutely nothing about it? And *****??

Now calling someone "Dummy" is grounds to get sued? HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHHAH you've GOT to be joking.

This is what's wrong with America today....... we're a little too quick to sue. Stop looking for the "big payoff" and lead an honest life. That's all I'm gonna say about that.

Not all suits are for "big payoffs." Sometimes a lawsuit is the only way to force a business to change their practices. They don't all entail monetary damages.
