U.S.A. Texas

Any Fall 2011 ACC hopefuls out there? I start my nursing skills class in March and am very excited. I'm reapplying next week for the Fall. If I calculated my ranking correctly I should make it in.

Good luck everyone!

Thanks for all the info! it really helps, also i was reading the handboook yesterday and it was saying that even though acc does not do a drug test that the clinical sites may which i expected, im just wondering if you did how much does that costs also, ive never taken one so i have no idea how much they are and im trying to figure out how much everything is going to cost so i can be prepared! thanks so much!

I can only speak about the clinical sites we did in hybrid. Texas Neuro Rehab and North Austin Medical Center did not require us to have drug tests. Cedar Park Regional Medical Center on the other hand did require it and I heard the students complaining that the cost was anywhere between $50 and $75.

Does anyone know if ACC is going to accept anymore students for the fall 2011 RN program? My rank was in the 170's. :(

As far as I know no unless people decline offers. The number of spots were reduced drastically because of staff leaving. My clinical instructor left for a great job offer. They can't add spots without teachers

First 8 weeks of level 1 we strictly used the nursing skills book which for us was the Harkreader one. Second eight weeks we used the "Bible" which is the super large Med Surg book. Honestly, even though I had people in higher levels of the program tell me that was all I was gonna need, I am a huge nerd and bought some of the recommended books anyways. I haven't used them at all. The Mosby's Dictionary is still in it's wrapping and the same with the diagnostic tests book. I didn't refer to them at all in level 1. I have an iPhone 4 and I found a great app called Pocket Lab Values and it helped me TONS in clinicals and clinical homework. It not only gives you the normal reference lab values but also tells you which patients have low or high values. Helped me TONS! Medscape is also a great app to have because I used it in clinical everyday. Nice quick reference to see drug interactions, side effects, and dosing.

Definitely need to buy the Nursing Care Plan book because you will use that constantly and a current drug book to take to clinical. The Evolve case studies still baffles me. I waited because I heard from a friend that they didn't need it until second 8 weeks of level 1. Once the second 8 weeks got here, the instructors asked if we had it and showed us how to register online for it but we NEVER used it. I still don't know what it will be used for.

I bought the newest edition of the Saunders NCLEX Review and that is something I did use in the second 8 weeks to help review for the tests but not a necessity.

Hope this helps you guys!

Thank you so much for info about apps!! Any more app. suggestions? I'm starting Hybrid in the Fall.. Haven't done much online work but my schedule is complicated with two kids so it seemed the best option. Is there any online time where you have to be in front of the computer at a certain time or is that flexible? Is all the testing done at RRC? Thanks!!

I use the WebMD app because it has great disease, drug, and treatment info.

Qx Calculate I used for EVERY care plan when I wanted to calculate my patient's BMI.

Micromedex is another great medication app with TONS of med info.

Medscape we already discussed

Pocket Lab Values we already discussed also. (I think this one is $1.99)

I also paid for the Saunders NCLEX review app a few years ago when they had a sale and it was only $10. I believe it normally is $40. I used that one along with the Saunders NCLEX Review book to help me get used to NCLEX questions and with the tests in school.

There is no set time that you have to be in front of your computer. When we had the online seminars some of them were live which if you wanted to attend live to ask questions then they were at certain times. Most of the time these live seminars were during my working hours so I would just go back and watch the playback. They record all the seminars so if you can't attend the live ones, then you can watch them whenever you want.

Yes, all labs and testing are done at the Round Rock campus.

Has anyone gotten an email clearing for registration? I turned in the background check last Friday and still haven't heard anything.

i submitted my background check last friday also, and still haven't heard anything, when I check online it still says 'in progress'

I did my background check on Thursday and still haven't heard anything. Anyone have a recommendation for the CEC professors?

When you register for classes like at CEC you do indeed register under one of the teachers names HOWEVER it doesn't matter which teacher you choose since EVERYONE sits in one room and EVERYONE gets the same teacher since it is a one big lecture where everyone comes to class and sits in the room together. Teachers teach all the students in lecture as one big class and often professors teach certain modules so you can have different professors. As far as recommendations I LOVED my CEC teachers. They are really nice and one of them is extremely laid back and I mean laid back. If you have him in check off you'll know. Don't stress about the background because you have a spot when your register and it does not matter what lecture or clinical you register for. Clinical are determined on first day so register for whatever is open.

Thank you so much for all of your advice.. Very helpful! Another quick question any recommendations for hybrid profs.? Do you know which one primarily does clinical at North Austin Medical Center? Thanks Again!!

Are clinical locations determined by location of residence?

Hybrid has 3 lecture teachers but like someone from CEC said, it doesn't matter who you register for because they all teach us the content. The only time it would make a difference would be in clinical. Since we can't mention names on here I can definitely give you a rundown on the differences between the three instructors and which clinical sites they are assigned to if you want to send me a private message. I think you have to have a certain number of posts on here before you might be able to do that though.
