Hello, everyone!
I submitted my application for the accelerated Summer 2010 program at ASU awhile ago, but I just realized that the February 1st deadline was coming up and wanted to see if anyone else here on allnurses.com applied or is applying. I'm so nervous, I've already applied once and didn't make it--I really, really, really, REALLY hope I can get in this time.
I'm already starting to get impatient waiting for April!!! My whole life is on hold until then! I hate that I can't apply to any other schools because I'm stuck waiting for ASU and I don't want to pay a bunch of application fees if I make it into ASU regardless. Don't get me wrong, though, I really want to get into ASU's program. I just want to get into nursing, really. It's just a little annoying that we will find out about getting into the program so late in the year
.
Regardless, GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! :heartbeat
What scores are you all applying with?
I got offered the Direct Parent PLUS loan... My parents have to create a user and accept it for me or something. I started the process though, and now I'm just waiting for my mom to get the email.... sigh* I gotta do my drug screen this morning... I just got home from work not too long ago and have to go to school soon... Beautiful... lol

I took mine at the lab in Banner Gateway and I was the only one there haha.
You have no idea how jealous I am of you right now! I've been to the one at Banner Estrella 5+ times and EVERY TIME I've been there over an hour. Usually it's because I'm doing a walk-in, but today to do my drug test, I had my appointment scheduled for 9:30am and I wasn't called back until 10:05am!! They're ALWAYS packed, I've seen it where there is standing room only! I need to stop going there, but it's by far the closest one to me.
Haha you beat me to it! But yeah I imagine it would have an effect on Falls tuition. I am very much against the idea of increasing taxes, but I think I just might vote for this one. Gotta find my registration card and stuff because we probably won't have much time from when we get out until ballots close so might even have to find one closer to school than where I live.
To be completely honest, I'm not sure if they're doing mail-in ballots. Obviously I would assume they are, but I've ALWAYS been a mail-in ballot recipient and I have yet to receive the ballot. It usually comes REALLY early, so it has me a little worried. If not, I was planning on lining up early to vote, but class starts at 7:30am on Tuesdays :'( There's no way I could make it beforehand, and I'm not sure if we'd have time after class... arghh! I'm definitely crossing my fingers the mail-ins still come in and that I'm just being overly anxious.
Did we all get it? It sounds like we all did! haha! That's pretty neat :)I also got that nursing grant (so we must have all got it).. that's awesome!
But yeah, I'm kind of in the same boat. I was offered the grant, a subsidized loan and then an unsubsidized loan. With the grant and the sub, it'll cover $7,500, so not even my whole tuition will be covered. I'm so up in the air about taking the unsubsidized, though, because it's only an additional $2,000, which will be just enough to cover all the books, scrubs, equipment, and the parking decal. I probably won't even get enough left over to help pay for a full tank of gas! So I'm really leery about taking out the extra loan because it's not really even worth it because it'll be gone in the blink of an eye. My parents are willing to help out as much as they can, but I dunno.
And in reality, if you can get a loan through a bank, the interest rate will be SO LOW compared to that of the unsubsidized loan. Being fixed at 6.8 is pretty ridiculous, you can get them for like 3.5-4.0 percent at most banks right now. The subsidized loan is worth it, though; the unsubsidized... meh. If you need the money, then sure, take it. But there are other options out there, too. There's just so much to think about!
Same thing on mine. Says temporarily unavailable. Although I do have the entrance counseling and MPN stuff on my todo list today.
I wish I had some good advice for everyone on taking the financial aid but I'm not really in the same boat as everyone else. I personally am maxing it all out as much as I can, but the military has a student loan repayment program that maxes out at $50,000 so I might as well.
But one thing to consider is the job market. I don't know how its going to be when we are done, but I'm planning to put money aside to help me out from when I graduate until I get a job. Hopefully it won't be a long wait but I don't want to feel stressed about money right away. Just my $.02
To all the current nursing students -Has any single semester seemed more demanding than others yet? Also, which classes have been the hardest for you, and why?
Thanks in advance!
Well I'm only a junior 1 so I dont have any experience to compare the semesters, but honestly I really think it'll be different for everyone. From what I've gathered from listening to other people it depends on your interests, for example if you really like peds/OB than that semester will seem easier than others. Plus it really seems that everyone thinks that the hardest semester is the one they're currently in! haha I can say though that for me pharmacology was the hardest class of Junior 1. The information itself was not difficult, its just that there was soooo much of it. Kind of like patho, you definitely have to start studying for the exams several days in advance.
Hey guys,
By any chance did anyone write down which classes we are going to be taking for Jr 2, Senior 1/2? I didn't write them down at the meeting. Also, I'm trying to plan a new work schedule. I currently work the night shift (10p-6:30a). I love it because its calm and I get to bring my laptop at night to do hw. Right now I work Tues-Thurs, and am off every other Mon/Fri and every other weekend... Ex: One week I'll work Sunday, Tue-Fri and the following week I'll work Mon-Thurs, and Sat. Now that I'm in the program, I know I'll either have to double up on a day or completely drop a shift..
*First Idea: Wed, Thurs, Fri (double from 2p-6:30a), & Sat = 40hrs (But I think in later semesters Friday ends up being a long day? idk...)
*Second Idea: Only working Wed-Sat night = 32hrs (4 nights)... I gotta let my boss know ASAP... !

Tarabarra-
It makes sense that you'd find topics that you find more interesting easier. I'm sure that I'll feel the same way. Sounds like if I stay on top of the material then we'll do just fine. I can't believe that we get all of this information in 16 months... I'm sure that it'll fly by. Thx!
Sabrina - Yikes.. I've been thinking about working full time but it just sounds so tough (I'll probably work like 20hrs/week & that kinda seems crazy to me). But, you do what you have to do. Hopefully you'll get a chance to change your schedule every semester b/c I'd imagine that classes will change a lot across semesters. I don't know how you're going to work doubles wed/thr/fri and go to class during the day - you'll never sleep. Good luck figuring that out! :)

Maybe Im not understanding this right, but when are you going to sleep?! Its not impossible to work during nursing school but that schedule sounds like you'd be exhausted :/

I would take out the full amounts because you can always give it back or take out less next time. If you are taking any money out and you are worried that you might not have enough, then I would take out all of it because you'd have to pay the same processing fees no matter how much you receive. Obviously, take out all of the subsidized loans (b/c the interest is paid by the government while you're in school) and take out the unsubsidized loans second.
Does anyone have the option to take out private loans (or does your parents have the option to take out "parent" loans) showing on their financial aid offer? I also got that nursing grant (so we must have all got it).. that's awesome!
