Hello, everyone!
I submitted my application for the accelerated Summer 2010 program at ASU awhile ago, but I just realized that the February 1st deadline was coming up and wanted to see if anyone else here on allnurses.com applied or is applying. I'm so nervous, I've already applied once and didn't make it--I really, really, really, REALLY hope I can get in this time.
I'm already starting to get impatient waiting for April!!! My whole life is on hold until then! I hate that I can't apply to any other schools because I'm stuck waiting for ASU and I don't want to pay a bunch of application fees if I make it into ASU regardless. Don't get me wrong, though, I really want to get into ASU's program. I just want to get into nursing, really. It's just a little annoying that we will find out about getting into the program so late in the year
.
Regardless, GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! :heartbeat
What scores are you all applying with?
So, I have a couple random questions. Here we go:
Tarabara/tttt/whomever can answer: So will we have to wear the scrubs on the first Tuesday or no? Just curious. And also... that jacket. Wow. haha, is it even effective at all? Are we FORCED to wear that jacket when it's cold? Can we wear white long sleeved shirt (like Under Armor or something) under our scrubs? And a question about the schedules... since we don't do the preschool thing or the well elder visit for a couple weeks, is it right to assume that we have lab on Thursdays as well for the first couple weeks? Then once we get into the groove of things we do the preschool thing and well elder and clincals on Thursdays? Another question about the first lab day, do we need to bring everything to lab that day? As in the clipboard, pocket organizer, stethoscope, BP cuff, etc.? Or will we get instructions on what to do the first day of lecture? Sorry about all the questions... haha!
Everyone: This is just for fun/random, but is anyone planning anything big/special as a last-fun-and-exciting-activity/trip before school starts? I've been trying to think of something to do that is under like... $100... but I can't really think of anything that doesn't have a lot of issues, is too expensive, or something I can't really do by myself (I dunno how my friends' finals schedules are going to pan out yet). I really want to do something, though like camping or go to a waterpark as a last hoo-rah before school starts; but we'll see if I actually do anything due to $$$. I just wanted to hear if anyone else was planning anything as a tribute to our couple-day-long summer vacation we're all getting, and maybe live vicariously through your plans. haha! jk jk :)
18 days 'til we start!

For orientation, you don't. You don't wear the hospital uniform until you actually go to lab/non community clinicals. most of us wore the maroon jacket. It's actually pretty effective (unless the coldness involves water in any way). We could wear a white long sleeved shirt underneath, but a lot of us didn't because the psychomotor labs are really kind of warm and you instantly regret it. I actually sort of like the jacket... it grows on you.
I hope that helps, i'm procrastinating on my project right now that's due in about 9 hours so i'll be on here a lot haha... only about 5-6 pages left.
That's good to hear that the jacket wears on you. Mine is just... frumpy. The sleeves are awkwardly big and makes my arms look like parachutes! haha Very handy if I plan on jumping out of a plane anytime soon, but not so much functionality in most other aspects of daily life. It also seemed relatively thin so I was worried that it wouldn't be sufficient come the winter months, but it sounds like it works, so yay!
I'm definitely procrastinating as well! Although obviously not on the same project haha. Good luck on the project! Sounds like you've got a lot of writing to do ahead of you haha
Wait, so we do or do not wear the scrubs the 2nd day?
As far as doing anything special. No haha. I plan to relax what little I can before jumping right back in to it. Maybe I'll splurge and get some beers but for the most part nothing exciting on this end.
You ought to make a trip up to Sedona or Payson or something just to get away from the heat and enjoy some fresh air before we hit the ground running.
@pineapplecrush haha, maybe you need a smaller size? or are you at the smallest? its pretty billowy (i hate the buttons so i never use them) but it isn't nearly as bad as yours.
thanks! the end product may end up in the realm of 34-36 pages. its full of charts and stuff, not straight writing (which would be terrible), so its not bad. you all will be doing this your last few weeks of class
@airborneinf: it depends. if you're still in lab orientation then you don't. contrary to what most people think they do keep you pretty informed as to what's expected of you so i'm sure you'll hear what you need to do by the end of the first day.
The jackets are ok in my opinion, not my favorite but not too bad either, they are kinda thin but as tttt already said the lab room gets quite warm.
I just finished my project I hope you're done or almost done now tttt, that LTC project took a lot longer than I expected it to.
And I agree with tttt, they really do keep you updated and informed, so dont worry you wont just show up one day in your regular clothes while everyone else is in scrubs haha, they'll definitely tell you when you need to wear what.
I'm not almost done. I told my FOR that I wouldn't work all night but after clinicals my face met my keyboard for about five hours so now i'm behind. I've been working on it since day 1 but i slacked for the pharm test and stuff. It may very well be all night. I'm trying to finish my pathologies (AD, psychosis, anxiety dis.) but psychiatric disorders are terrible to write etiologies for congratulations on being done, though!
Hi guys! This question is for the current students in the program...
What should we bring the first day of school? As in...binders, notebooks, laptops, pocket organizer, etc. And...what can we expect?
That might have been a silly question, but I just feel like I'm in the first grade all over again and I have no idea what school will be like (butterflies and excitement included) . L:lol2:L

What day are you starting class? If it's on a regular lecture day, bring normal lecture stuff. Folders, paper, etc. and water. because its really hot haha. if its a lab day, do the same, because the first day is pretty much just orientation + intro to FOR/LC and getting a tour. You tend to get a lot more paper in lab than lecture, so just get ready to be organized. to be honest its not too big of a deal what you bring on the first day as long as you are able to take away all that you'll be given.
Ya I agree, just bring a folder to hold all the papers they give you lol If your first day is the same as ours than you wont really have any actual lecture. It'll will be all orientation stuff as tttt said. That and a bunch of get-to-know-you activities! Honestly, I was REALLY overwhelmed the first few days because they just over load you with a TON of information. But looking back I really didn't need to be so nervous, they dont expect you to remember everything they go over things again as they come up. As we've said they really make sure you're prepared and know what to expect for each day as it comes.
I'm curious as to what teachers you guys will have for summer, because I know some of our teachers aren't working summer.

Scrubs are for lab days so basically every tuesday, and for the beginning of the semester when you go to your well elder site and the preschool thats when you wear the "community" outfit (the blue pants and polo). You can wear just your regular clothes for all lectures, but if you're going to open lab after a lecture than you have to wear closed toed shoes but thats the only requirement then. Later in the semester you'll wear your scrubs to lab days AND when you go to long term care clinicals.
I made a post about selling some of my books to any of you who haven't bought yours yet, but it was deleted because I guess thats against the forum rules. So if you're interested in buying a few of the books from me then send me a message (I hope thats ok with the site rules!) :)
