ASU Summer 2010 Program Applicants

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hello, everyone!

I submitted my application for the accelerated Summer 2010 program at ASU awhile ago, but I just realized that the February 1st deadline was coming up and wanted to see if anyone else here on allnurses.com applied or is applying. I'm so nervous, I've already applied once and didn't make it--I really, really, really, REALLY hope I can get in this time. :uhoh3:

I'm already starting to get impatient waiting for April!!! My whole life is on hold until then! I hate that I can't apply to any other schools because I'm stuck waiting for ASU and I don't want to pay a bunch of application fees if I make it into ASU regardless. :( Don't get me wrong, though, I really want to get into ASU's program. I just want to get into nursing, really. It's just a little annoying that we will find out about getting into the program so late in the year :banghead:.

Regardless, GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! :heartbeat

What scores are you all applying with?

summer semester tuition is about $6600 (that's what they said at the workshops in the fall).

hmmm...ok i just looked it up on the asu website and it says for summer 2010 for nursing including all fees its $4600, so hopefully that is right and not 6600!

How long does it take you to get to your classes? And is the parking garage always full? I have heard that some of the garages downtown are usually full and that it's not worth taking your car but the light rail instead.

Well our classes are so early that the garage is never full when I get there lol but on wednesdays our class starts at 940 and even then its never full. And someone else said it took them 12 minutes to walk from the garage to the NHI 2 building which sounds about right. And of course its a lot quicker walk to Mercado...

I was thinking that if any of you still need to buy books maybe i could sell some of mine to you. I figure it could be a win/win because if I sell you my book for half of what the bookstore is charging i can probably still get more money than if i tried to sell mine back. Of course I cant sell all of mine because some we will re-use, but if any of you are still looking for books let me know and I'll tell you what I can sell! :)

i would probably hold off on selling stuff back until we at least know for sure what we need and don't need. i imagine we should know that after the meeting on the 16th. but here are the 7 books listed in the flyer she sent me:

lehne: pharm for nursing care 7th ed new!

jarvis: hlth assmt/physical exam 5th ed

edelman: health promo throughout lifespan 7th ed new!

balzer-riley: communication in nursing: 6th ed

creasia: conceptual foundations 4th ed.

potter: fundamentals of nursing 7th ed

potter: nursing skills online access code for bb 7th ed

wow, i sure hope that we only need 7 books! that would be fantastic!! :yeah:

welcome to the forum, crystal/yay nursing! haha i like your sn! :p anyhoo, from what i understand we won't know what we're going to get from fafsa until after we actually sign up for classes. i believe once we sign up, the asu fin aid office does what they do best and compute whatever it is that they compute based on the credit hours we're taking, yadda yadda, and then you'll find out. i don't even have fafsa info or even my scholarship info for fall, either, but that's because i haven't signed up for classes. i'm with you, though, i really want to know what/if i'll get any money from fafsa!

5 days! :heartbeat

For those of you already in the program, what do you guys recommend that we should start studying? I would like to go over material that you feel would be helpful before classes start next month.

where do you see this??

*going to go try and look myself*

oh and welcome! glad you found us. just a couple more days until we all meet each other and our classmates. crazy!

Honestly I dont really think its necessary to study material before hand, if there is any previous info you need to know the teachers always review it. However, if you really want to, I would suggest Patho or just general anatomy (if you're like me and you forgot a lot of it :p ) Or if you have your books already our NUR310 teachers use the Edelman and Mandle book a lot.

I've been meaning to ask this as well... I've been frantically trying to squeeze in Patho studying with my other classes this semester but it hasn't been going very well as of late. I'm very relieved to hear that the teachers review info, that makes me feel much more at ease that I don't have to magically re-absorb the Patho book again haha.

I was curious, though, tttt and Tarabara, about how they pick the clinical groups. Do you guys know? Like is it just alphabetically or random selection? I was just pondering that the other day... haha :lol2:

4 days! :heartbeat

Well for Jr 1 the learning communities are suppose to be grouped based on where you live, so that theoretically your clinical sites will be close and you can carpool. But this is not always the case, my learning community has people from Mesa, Tempe, and Scottsdale lol and as far as I know our Jr 2 learning communities are just random.

And dont stress out about studying before you start the program, I told myself I was going to review Bio and Patho but never did and I've had no problem :)

Random? I sure hope they take the fact that I live in queen creek in to consideration. The drive to downtown is bad enough. I'd lose it if they put me in the west valley!

First of all, I would like to say congratulations on getting in to ASU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome to a wonderful journey! As a senior in the nursing program in ASU, I can honestly say that you do not need to study before school starts. The best thing for you to do is to relax and spend time with your family and friends. Have some fun because once school starts, your social life is pretty much non-existent. I live on the Gilbert/Queen Creek border, and I have never been sent to the west side for clinicals. Learning communities change every semester, which you will come to find is a GOOD thing. I know you all have orientation this Friday. Think about getting involved. CCNS is an awesome organization, looks great on resumes, and does not take up a lot of outside time. Remember to take care of yourself during school. Eat right, and get a good night's sleep, especially before a test. Make sure you have a good support system. You will need it. Nursing school needs to be your priority. You will literally eat, sleep, and breathe it for the next 4 semesters. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :nurse::)
