Hello, I am new to allnurses.com and was wondering if anyone on here has also applied for ASU's spring start bsn program. Or if you have applied to their program before, and have been accepted or denied, and what your scores were. This is my first time applying there, and I'm trying not to get my hopes up because I know it's a very competitive program. My gpa out of the 13 pre-requisites was a 3.76 (I am taking my last 4 pre-requisites this semester) and I got a 100 on the math portion of the NET and a 73 on the reading portion of the NET. I, personally, am so glad they removed the essay portion, since I know that's what cost a lot of student from not getting into their program. But since now their essay has been removed, I have no way of guessing/estimating my chances compared to previous semesters since the point system is out of 6 now instead of 7. My total points is a 5.49 out of 6. So if you applied for asu's spring start nursing program, and don't mind also posting your scores on here or in a private message, that would be great! I have no idea what my chances are! Thanks for reading.
I haven't applied for any but I need to. I looked at them a little and quickly became discouraged so I was hoping to meet with someone in financial aid once I'm advanced. It seems pointless until I get in. Did you apply for any? Have any luck? Can they award them before you are even advanced?
This might be the reason that we do not have our letters yet:
"ASU also plans to restrict nursing-school enrollment at its West and Polytechnic campuses to cut costs, instead directing new students to the downtown Phoenix campus. Overall nursing enrollment won't be cut, Renzulli said, and current students won't be affected."

I called the college today about that. I asked if that would affect this advancement cycle and the lady on the phone said that it could "possibly." She didnt know anything else because the Dean is out of town and will be back tomorrow at which they will make decisions and she also told me that "we hope to have letters out by the end of the week."
Personally, I think they have known about this budget thing for a long time now, it didnt just happen over night. They are not being professional and have procrastinated! Im not sure how fair it would be if they cut A LOT of seats, but I wouldnt put it past them. With ASU, anything is possible.
I'm at the west campus now ..about to graduate in 2 months...
First off..it seems like they have these "delays" every semester..how convenient haha..back when i was finding out, same thing.
Next, yes the word on the street is that the 16 month programs are going away. Research has shown that students in accelerated programs as such who take a crammed summer session ... do poorly in these areas on NCLEX, the state boards. We got through it..some how! Its a shame they are doing away with it. Its also rumored that admission will be cut from 80 students for the FALL to 30 students in the fall and then 30 students in the Spring. This is probably due to lack of money as well as nursing faculty to teach...
Good Luck to Everyone on their acceptance!

AZ Student Nurse,
So, how do you like the program? Are you finding that ASU is completely incompetant with everything? I have talked to many people in other programs at ASU and they have dealt with so many issues (which usually stem from ASU being disorganized). I was hoping that it would be different for me because I thought that they had a good and established BSN program. However, I have had so many issues starting with advisors telling me conflicting information to the University having troubles accepting and recording my transcripts.... I swear, I am in my 20's and have almost had like 10 heart attacks! What is crazy is that I am extremely organized and have been on top of everything!

I also heard about this... I heard from a lady in a class of mine at MCC who also attends ASU Polytechnic campus for pathophysiology. She told me about this last Thursday and that her professor told her class that ASU is cutting teachers and students from the nursing program, thus holding the aceptance letters until the dean can review them since they have to cut some of the students who originally got accepted. Though that contradicts what that article just said, a patho professor from ASU said it himself (which he told his class he really wasn't supposed to say)... might just be another rumor since I didn't hear it directly, but that's what I heard.

well, this isn't encouraging. nbc did a short blurb on asu "slashing" nursing school slots this morning, how depressing. well i guess this answes the question on how the economy will affect nursing through even less slots for nursing school.
here's the article from this morning.
thoughts?

Yep, I opened my email today and saw that same message sent from ASU yesterday.
Too bad they couldn't have fixed these "system issues" over the summer.... sounds like a case of poor planning and procrastination got the best of them; when the time finally came for them to use their new computer program it caused this delay.
I'm just frustrated I guess since it seems as though all of our lives could change drastically upon receipt of our acceptance/denial letters. Not to mention that the Spring semester starts the 3rd week in Jan.... lots to do by then to prepare. (financial aid, student loans, quitting job, etc)
Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest everyone! I'm pretty positive I am not the only one that feels exhausted from all of the waiting during this application cycle. Uuuuugggh!
