Hello, I am new to allnurses.com and was wondering if anyone on here has also applied for ASU's spring start bsn program. Or if you have applied to their program before, and have been accepted or denied, and what your scores were. This is my first time applying there, and I'm trying not to get my hopes up because I know it's a very competitive program. My gpa out of the 13 pre-requisites was a 3.76 (I am taking my last 4 pre-requisites this semester) and I got a 100 on the math portion of the NET and a 73 on the reading portion of the NET. I, personally, am so glad they removed the essay portion, since I know that's what cost a lot of student from not getting into their program. But since now their essay has been removed, I have no way of guessing/estimating my chances compared to previous semesters since the point system is out of 6 now instead of 7. My total points is a 5.49 out of 6. So if you applied for asu's spring start nursing program, and don't mind also posting your scores on here or in a private message, that would be great! I have no idea what my chances are! Thanks for reading.
AZ Student Nurse,So, how do you like the program? Are you finding that ASU is completely incompetant with everything? I have talked to many people in other programs at ASU and they have dealt with so many issues (which usually stem from ASU being disorganized). I was hoping that it would be different for me because I thought that they had a good and established BSN program. However, I have had so many issues starting with advisors telling me conflicting information to the University having troubles accepting and recording my transcripts.... I swear, I am in my 20's and have almost had like 10 heart attacks! What is crazy is that I am extremely organized and have been on top of everything!
Well once you get into the program..it doesnt get any better until you hit about the second semester. The 1st semester u are so confused and just have absolutely no idea whats going on, how to navigate blackboard, where to find assignments...your like, "what, that was due today? Where did it say that?" Oh...really in that little folder upon folder upon folder on blackboard..thanks for the heads up! I seriously felt like I had that deer in the headlights look the entire semester. But at least you aren't alone! If your organized..u will be better off, stay that way..but u will go crazy trying 2 sort through everything in the beginning. It does get better though..at least by the 3rd semester! Good Luck!

Graduation in 46 days
Hey everyone,I got this in my email this afternoon. Thank goodness!
The advancement letters were mailed today, October 31st, so you should begin receiving them shortly. A total of 322 students qualified for the 100 spaces available. Because of the state budget situation, enrollment at Polytechnic campus was reduced from 80 to 40 students for the spring semester. Our placement for Downtown Phoenix campus remained at 60 students for a total placement of 100 students between both campuses.
Good Luck!
Since all my ASU mail is getting returned to them, can someone post when they receive their letter and what the cut off score was? Thanks!! Also, I wonder if the my.asu.edu site will show a difference......
Sorry guys... Unless your advancement score is higher than 5.583 then you arent getting in! Just got the letter.
**** ASU! Im going back to UofA to complete my degree in Physiology and become a DOCTOR! Its much easier to get into medical school and more money :)
I made the Deans List all year last year at ASU and the only thing I messed up on was the reading part of the Net. Why would I waste my time trying to reapply lol.
I was placed on the alternate list. The cutoff was 5.583 and my advancement score was 5.533. I guess that I'll be reapplying for next time. If anyone else was placed on the alternate list, would you mind posting your score so maybe we can kind of gage how many people are ahead of us. Thanks!
Congrats to all those who got in! Condolences to those who didn't.
Surprisingly, I got my letter. I didn't have a shot in h*ll My score was 4.83. I am actually a decent student, honor student actually. But looking back, I could have gotten better grades. I guess ASU just isn't where God wants me to be. The only campus that I wanted was Poly anyway, and those got cut to 40 seats. I am now waiting on the Banner Nurse Fellows letter...... sigh......
Yeah Massage..you're telling me! ASU mostly has their head in their ass. I have way too many classes to settle for a two year degree anyway and I already work for Banner and Ill be damned if im doing the Banner Fellows Program. Maybe try Grand Canyon University :)
I have a suggestion for those of you that did not get in. I realize this is going to sound way bad, but its slightly true....
In all honesty, nursing isnt that great of a career so consider this an eye opener. Its not worth it to keep reapplying every semester and not get in. Everyone makes nursing out to be this huge grandiose prosocial career but in reality it sucks! You get yelled at, talked down to, have to deal with **** from rude family members, doctors that have miserable personal lives and the fear of losing your license for whatever reason. Afterall, there is shortage of nurses for a reason and its not solely because of population.
I would suggest re-evaluating your interests and try something else. I made the BIGGEST mistake by getting out of science and pre med to try out nursing! Now im behind a year. Secondly, for those of you that did get in..congrats thats exciting but dont be surpised if ASU screws you! I thought ASU would be a lot better than UA but its actually a lot worse. I thought it was funny in the rejection letters how it says to talk to an advisor about future goals.. **** that - the advisors in that office cant even do their job right to begin with. Anyway guys..good luck.. and if you didnt get in..dont give up, but consider other routes and definitely be weary of ASU!
Once you graduate as a dr it's pretty much guaranteed employment for life. May not be as lucrative as it once was but it is job security. A small downside is being haunted by head hunters. :) And I agree with the thoughts on ASU as the experience was very underwhleming. I wondered how they could be so damn unorganized, hire so many crappy instructors with poor social skills, and have such a backwoods curriculum. And where to begin with hospital nursing. :)

Every educational institution has their faults (I've dealt with ASU, GCU, Maricopa Community College and Chamberlain - ALL of them have mislead me in one way or another). Plus every career choice has a downside, I haven't worked at an employer yet that I haven't been talked down to or yelled at. Nothing is meant to be perfect... but as long as the school is an accredited nursing school and my future employer pays me what I'm worth and has great benefits, I'll deal with the bulls**t bureaucracies they throw at me.
I'm not trying to say that it doesn't suck to keep applying with the only result being "denial letters". Everyone that didn't get in has a right to be angry and disappointed right now. I think about all of us that were turned down who are VERY qualified to be nurses ~~~ hell-a-good nurses for that matter!
I didn't get in either but I'm gonna keep trying to get in somewhere.
Keep your chin up jjax85 :icon_hug:everything will work out for you the way it was meant to.
