I just want to see how many of us there are out there this semester. Here we go:
How many of us 30 somethings are out there?
How many of us are making a career change?
Well you guessed it, I'm a 30 something (37 according to my birth certificate but I think it is lying ) and making a complete career change. I currently work in an office and am tired of it. This is the third time I've considered going in to nursing and the furthist I've gone toward getting a degree. Wish I had done it many years ago.
Hello all, I am 31(YUCK) and got my AS in Medical Assisting in 2000. Did not use that degree and am working as an insurance payment poster in a medical billing office. I am starting my prereqs in the fall for our Nursing program here, and am very excited to become a nurse.....whenever I think of myself as a nurse I see myself on L&D or postpartum. Good luck everyone, Michelle
Almost 37 here--we "older" students have it all over the "younguns" even with the crazy schedules and balancing acts we have!!
I have been working in higher ed for 15 years, and am now ready for a career that still allows me to help and care for people, but has more flexible hours and better pay. I have two kids (ages 2 and 4) and have been taking prereqs since May, along with working 10 hrs/wk.
Still, I've managed a 4.0 GPA and 22 credits in the past 8 months! :w00t:
My mantra is "I can do this... I AM doing this!!"
Hi! I'm 36(will be 37 this year) WHERE DID THE TIME GO??? I worked in an insurance company field since I was 19 before switching over to a CNA and then headed to nursing school... it took me awhile to get my degree but I'm happy to say after 6 years...I received my degree in May 2007..of course I have a family, work and other things that I had to balance which is the reason it took me soooo long to finish...but like someone said..BETTER LATE THAN NEVER!! Now I would like to return and get my bachelors...GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!
my girlfriend and I started together at 21 yrs old, entered community college, 2 semesters into it I got pregnant, she continued on, today in 2008 we are turning 36 yrs old, she is an RN bridging on, me, I am just finishing my pre-reqs for LPN, my child is now 14yrs old, and I am scraping by working dead end office jobs that I hate. My girlfriends vacations with her 2 kids and enjoying life.
its been tough watching through her what I could have accomplished...
I just turned 30 and am finishing up my pre-reqs. I already have a BS in Biology and started out in patient registration. After moving to FL, I got into IT as a data coordinator and now I'm dabbling in payroll. I tinkered with the idea of getting my masters in accounting, but even though I love numbers, I utterly despise the business aspect of it. I used to be pre-med back in the day before getting burned out on school, but now I'm realizing that I really miss the hustle and bustle of the ER and the OB units. Sooo here I am, hoping to start NS in spring 2009.
In addition to all this, I just bought a house with my boyfriend of less than a year who happens to have 3 kids (the oldest lives with her mom). I have no kids of my own, so I commend all of you SAHM. *whew* I don't know how you do it, but you're an inspiration!
Good luck to everyone!
Ja,all sweet young things! I been "30ish" for a while now.Nursing is a path I did not take 1st time around.I thought it too much a traditional women's job in 1976 when I graduated from HS.Also my sis was a nurse. I didn't want to follow. ): Now I am waiting to see if my application at work(the VA) will be accepted and they will help me with my new career . If all goes well I will be starting my ARN at 50 and seven sons later.
37 years old and only recently figured out what I want to be when I grow up. :)
I'm married, mom of one, work full time in a medical clinic in an administrative capacity, but I do have some involvement with patients...but I'm not a healthworker...yet. I am hoping that I will be crosstrained soon, as my boss does know that I am in school with the hope of getting my RN/BSN, whichever I end up getting.
I guess I'm the real senior citizen here. I just turned 49 and am hoping to start (be accepted) into the ADN- El Centro nursing program in Spring '09. This is my last year of prereq's and I'm really looking forward to starting "the program". I'll be almost 52 when I finish.
I've always wanted to be a nurse for as long as I can remember, but life just got in the way. I worked in the corporate world for 20 years and that is where I got my degree - BA in business. I'm currently working part time as a file clerk in a law firm and going to school. It's a great situation for me to work and still have time for school.
I'm also working on staying fit & healthy because I have to work another 20 years or until I die - whichever comes first :pumpiron:

itsa307 I am in the same boat as you, I just turned 31 though. I am starting up Human Nutrition this term and I will be taking classes one at a time until the prereq's are complete. I just keep telling myself I can do this. I have a 6,5 and two year old. My goal is to be a nurse before my 6 year old hits middle school if not before! (He's in 1st grade now) So good luck to all us 30 somethings!
