I just want to see how many of us there are out there this semester. Here we go:
How many of us 30 somethings are out there?
How many of us are making a career change?
Well you guessed it, I'm a 30 something (37 according to my birth certificate but I think it is lying ) and making a complete career change. I currently work in an office and am tired of it. This is the third time I've considered going in to nursing and the furthist I've gone toward getting a degree. Wish I had done it many years ago.

35yrs old here....and making a career change.
Currently work in the social service field. I oversee 25 group homes....and it can be a challenge with staffing especially. Social service isn't as recognized as nursing is and i've always found myself interested in nursing.
I did work as a CNA for about 8 or so years then went into the DD field. It's highly stressful and a lot of paperwork. I need something a little more challenging when it comes to mind work. Supervising the supervisors can become mundane because you are repeating things over and over (usually it's always staffing issues..lol). Another thing is, having calls all the time.
For 3 years i was on call 24/7. It was insane. Talk about having no life. The current company I'm working with is great in that aspect. They believe when a person is off of work they shouldn't have to have their work phones on. That has been a total relief. But, like i mentioned earlier, I really do need a change.
But on the flip side of that, I feel that the medical field doesn't really have enough knowledge on the DD side of it. Most of the time, if i go into the emergency room with a client who has DD, the staff are usually afraid.....which you never know they may have had an experience with a client before that wasn't exactly easy.....but nevertheless it would be nice to be on the nursing side to see if i can make a difference for the DD population.

Well, I'm 32, and just barely getting started. I'm working on reviewing all of high school math right now (my big academic weakness) and plan on upgrading all of my high school marks in the fall and winter.
Not really doing a complete change in my career...I'm a doula and childbirth educator, and would love to work in L&D once I'm a nurse. So, a similar area of interest, yet totally different!

GO FOR IT!! If it's what you really want, you're never too old to learn something new. Your life may have more involvements than someone right out of high school, but there are plenty of people 30 & up who have made the life/career change.
I'm nearly 34 & I just graduated this past Dec... my husband & 5yr old son were THRILLED to see the end... it take sacrifice, but it is possible.
Now I'm preparing for NCLEX & then I can enter the next phase of my life.
Good luck & best wishes to all!

Hi!! I'm 32 and have been working in the bar industry for 13 years and managing the SAME bar for 4 yrs, now. I hate it! Hate is a strong feeling but I think I just grew out of the atmosphere. I want to be an RN because I know that I really care about humanity and can do my part caring for others. It doesn't help that everyday I go to work and "enable" the public to escape their reality through addiction.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE PREBEES!!:roll

Another "senior citizen" here! :) I am 38, and I will be 41 or so when I finally have my RN. I figure that I'll be 41 in 3 years anyway, I might as well have a degree when I get there!
I already work in healthcare as a hospital pharmacy tech. I love healthcare and am looking forward to actually earning a decent paycheck once I'm done with school. :)

Hi! I am 32. I have been working a clerical position in a medical office for over 12 years. I have always known that I wanted to become a nurse, just couldnt seem to get there. I have been in and out of school for at least ten years!!! Just couldnt get my act together for a long time! But I've finally made it and will be starting my program in March! I am really nervous because I took a lot of my pre reqs a long time ago but I am trying to stay positive and hopeful that my journey will be over soon!!! Good luck to everyone!!!

Looks like we are the same age, so THANK YOU for replying :w00t:. I did a similar thread like this a while ago and was amazed at how many of us 30 somethings there were out there. I met a woman the other day that is 36 and doing the LPN to RN program at my school now and loving it. And I like you am taking the attitude of I'll be 41 in a couple of years anyway, I mind as well get my RN while I still have plenty of working years ahead of me .
