I am starting this thread separate from another thread that has been posted on numerous times. I recently heard from my nurse corps recruiter that they would soon be pulling selected people off the OML and commissioning them within the next couple months or so. We are currently half way through the fiscal year and this is apparently when the army starts to make decisions on their current needs to complete the army nurse corps new officer spots for that year. Just a reminder, the OML list is made of officer candidates that were selected to commission but were not offered a spot at that time. As I recall, there were a decent amount of us in this position after the November and December boards! I personally am on the OML list after the December boards for a 66H and am from the Nashville, TN area :)

I commissioned in September. The ceremony was short and occurred in the recruiting office. They gave me the option of doing it wherever I wanted, so I could have made it as big as I wanted. However, I did not know I was commissioning that day until a that afternoon and was leaving for the beach. So mine was short and sweet.

They tell me it will be 4-6 weeks to rcv orders. After that, they will go with me to get my ID and I can go get uniforms and start drill. You can find approximate costs of uniforms online. Pixie.RN and ktRNBSN would have more insight to uniform costs.

Last I saw you were waiting to see if you were coming off the OML. Did you find out anything?

marine7 is correct. my ceremony was short and sweet as well, except my husband commissioned me instead of a recruiting officer. as for uniforms, a set of OCPS (camo) costs around 100, the boots I bought were also around 100 (I bought some that were slightly more expensive because I found them to be the most comfortable, and ASUs (dress uniform) are anywhere between 500-1000 depending on the quality that you want to buy. I know we personally paid 800 when my now husband graduated west point and commissioned but the ones he bought were a lot better quality than what I have seen at the PX here at fort campbell. I don't plan on buying that uniform until closer to when I head to bolc because of the cost. I commissioned going on 4 weeks ago and still have yet to receive orders, once you get your orders you can make an appointment with the ID card office and get your CAC. I was told it would be anywhere from 2-3 months from commissioning until you have your report date for your first drill weekend. It is up to your recruiters to take you to your unit and help you inprocess since unlike active duty, you report to your unit before having any formal type of army training. Once you report to your unit, you will get assigned a date to go to San Antonio, Texas for BOLC. You have up to two years from your commissioning date to actually attend bolc, but it is mostly up to you to keep on your unit and try to get a slot for BOLC. you are not deployable until after you have completed bolc. hope this helps!!

I dropped $1K on uniforms. That set me up with everything, from ACUs (what we wore at the time, now it's the OCPs which look much better!!) to the ASUs (dress uniform). For boots I wore the Nike SFB, I can't say enough good things about them. We actually had to wear our ACUs while working in the ER (crazy, I know ... I had no choice) and that made comfortable boots a priority. I was active duty, so I needed more uniforms and whatnot (t-shirts, socks, PTs, etc.) than folks in the Reserves might need.

Yes! Found out I came off the OML. I should be commissioning next week. Anything I should know regarding the contract besides making sure my time or service and bonus is correct?

4-6 weeks for orders huh, why so long? Do you not know what unit you will be going to yet?

I'm glad I saw this. I want to order those same boots. I feel better spending the money on them knowing that they are truely comfortable like the reviews say.

Thank you! This is great information! Do you know the unit you are going to? I know my unit, so I wonder if it will still take 4 weeks.

Yeah I've known my unit for a long time. Your orders have to go all the way up to HRC and then come all the way back down. So 4 weeks is a minimum from what I've heard. Nothing moves quickly with the army!

Congrats! Yes, I knew my unit last year. Still going to several weeks for orders. As far as your contract, just make sure your bonus is there. If you have both a bonus and loan repayment, make sure you pick the one you want first.

They really are. Just order whatever size you would wear in Nike running shoes. :)
