Hi,
I see alot of posts about "Active Duty" OBLC, but none on the Reserve component.
Is anyone else going to Oct 30, 2008...OBLC (RC)?
If so, how are you going? If you are flying---did you book your flight/pay or did HRC do the booking?
On a phone message, Mr. Staples of HRC, said my "orders for OBLC" would not be "cut" until the new fiscal year (Oct. 1st).--so I guess I will get a welcome packet then? I do have a class reservation, that's about all I know.
My main concern is about the tranportation aspect- I don't know whether to book a flight & hotel room now or wait.
Any help from reserve officers would help greatly! :)

Please be aware of all the items that you need when submitting your packet to the Nurse Boards as my recruiter was not aware of it. My friend just processed and she had to have a pap smear as well, so things have not changed in the past year.
I think they can do it for you when you get the rest of your physical for entry...not sure though.
attention - funny below.
background: I am male.
When I joined the Army in 2002 I sad down with the recruiter to schedule my MEPS physical...the recruiter had me initial next to several boxes on the paperwork where I was initialing several items to include that I would attend the physical, scope of physical, that I would wear underpants... and then the last box was a bit odd..however my desire and patriotic imagination was vividly pushing me forward..and I initialed the box stating to the effect that I would undergo a complete lady partsl inspection... now even though this did not make perfect sense to me and felt a bit in violation of my personal bits... I was determined to push forward.. needless to say the recruiter and I had a good laugh after the miscommunication was identified and I was gleefully relieved that it would not be required.
i don't get the "labs"? you had to have lab work done by your own family practice dr office?also, someone said going through meps was quicker, what does that mean? i know meps when i went through 20 yrs ago as an enlistedman... didn't know going to your own dr was an option.??
not yet passed nclex but, army reserve is an option soon.... can someone take the time to explain in painful detail what all of thr processes are?

no, your personal physician is not an option; however for women we can have our "well-women exam" at our md's office. instead you will go to the base and perhaps to the clinic to be tested. each base/recruiter is different. you should ask your recruiter how you will be tested, just in case you see something on here and your recruiter does not do it the same way. it would save you a lot of aggravation. you can still go through the meps process and it is faster, as all of the results are provided that day...as opposed to going to the clinic and having your labs drawn and waiting for the results. first you provide the urine. then the labs are drawn. the labs are the standard cbc with diff, hiv, hepatitis, etc testing that is required for all military. hearing test is after that. finally, you will have the hearing test.
all of this information, once the results come back for the blood, will be included in your packet that goes before the anc board. your recruiter will provide you with a list of documents to have. i would advise you to get all of the required documents, recommendations, transcripts, etc for when you meet with your recruiter, this will allow for faster processing. they can then schedule you to take your physical immediately upon receipt of those items. i had all of items ready for when i met with my recruiter.
you can still process now and wait for the nclex-rn as that is what my friend did. when she passed she called her recruiter and provided her with her license once it was received. she was then presented to the board at the end of august, and called around 14 sep. she made the oct oblc course. she just received her orders via email today.
My recruiter just responded I followed up on the paps smear. She said has a copy of my latest medical records but didn't check the date of my last paps. She asked if I wanted it done at my physical. I told her that is fine so hopefully it won't be alot of trouble with labs, etc. I wonder when she was going to realize that was missing. My physical is one of the last pieces of my application.
I intially met with the healthcare recruiter during the end of July. Everything is pretty much done and our goal was to have my app sent to the October boards but it looks like it will be November. I had to loose a couple of pounds before I get my physical. Hopefully if all goes well then I would love to be in camp some time early next year.
I'm in the boat with alot of people trying to catch the early part of the fiscal year to get some extra incentives.
Good luck Sassy,
I have definitely lost out on the incentive. I just spoke to someone at the recruiters office and confirmed the changes ie; no incentive for dipoma or AD nurses and OBLC has changed from 2 weeks to 4 weeks. Thanks to all of you I would never have known this. As for all the other lab work and pap smear stuff, I will make sure I find out what I need before I turn in any paper work. Love to have all my ducks in a row and together. Wish me luck!! I'm trying to get it all done before the holidays. Also have to lose a few pounds so no Christmas Cookies for me!!
