Hi,
I see alot of posts about "Active Duty" OBLC, but none on the Reserve component.
Is anyone else going to Oct 30, 2008...OBLC (RC)?
If so, how are you going? If you are flying---did you book your flight/pay or did HRC do the booking?
On a phone message, Mr. Staples of HRC, said my "orders for OBLC" would not be "cut" until the new fiscal year (Oct. 1st).--so I guess I will get a welcome packet then? I do have a class reservation, that's about all I know.
My main concern is about the tranportation aspect- I don't know whether to book a flight & hotel room now or wait.
Any help from reserve officers would help greatly! :)

HI GetnPhDAre you saying that if I pass all physical requirements and get sworn in in June that I may not be able to go to OBLC. (what exactly does borded mean as this is all new ling to me.) Also, in my packet I recieved and as per my recruiter, it said that officer training was only two weeks. So whats the scoop???
Thanks
Hi 2S44,
Are you applying for Reserve or Active duty? Reserve OBLC (Officer basic training camp) is 3.5 weeks (your publication is old, and states 2 weeks), Active duty OBLC is 9 weeks or so. "Boarded" mean your application is accepted and you now are eligible to "commission" (take the oath).
I commissioned April 2008, I could have made the August class, but didn't have all my labs. So I will be in the October class. The time line for "application submission to OBLC" for me has taken 8 months.
Here is a recent allnurses.com thread about OBLC:

Here is the OBLC website:

Good Luck

Thanks OTD,
I just want to make sure that I do not go to OBLC before my son graduates high school. (He is already done with basic) I am going in as reserve. I wonder if my recruiter is up to speed on the 3.5 weeks. I know things change a lot and quickly! Just like nursing in general. The only thing you can count on is that it will change. She also said it would take about 3 months for all the paper work to clear. So i guess it is really longer sometimes. Are you resrves too? Hey, best of luck at OBLC. Can't wait to hear all about it! And thanks for the sites, I'll check them out.
hi 2,
it really depends on many factors. some have taken months, while others take less time. i know that my packet took me approximately 2 months, from the start of the process, to get boarded (packet sent to the board and approved), and finally commissioned. however, if i would have gone through the meps, then it would have been faster. a colleague of mine, it only took her one month...so timing is everything. i was boarded last year in november and had the dates of aug, sept, and oct listed. i was asked if i wanted to attend august oblc and declined as i was hoping to attend october due to residency requirements. now, even though i was boarded, my recruiter had to wait for my scroll to get sent back and that took a few weeks, it got delayed due to the holidays. i was able to my usar commission in december. so, long story short...it really all depends on a number of things. waivers are another issue that can take awhile, depending on what the waiver is for. i am anal so i had everything that they needed with my application. if you are a new graduate or still in school, you will have to take an exam, this i did not have to do...so i really cannot tell you how that factors into time.
the packet that you get from the recruiter is old and out of date. for instance, mine still calls the course obc. the rc component is approximately 3-4 weeks in length. recruiters still tell you that you go down a week earlier than everyone else if you are not prior service, which has also changed. i think the problem is that as things are updated and the recruiters are not aware of the changes. i was once told that their job is to get you there and once you are there...well it is now your "job" to make it through.
hi older,
it took me one year from the time of application to oblc. however, it was due to my request of delaying due to finishing up residencies. i was able to get my labs and everything submitted with my packet. one thing that they did not tell me, which almost delayed me, was that i needed to have a pap smear that was current. i think that they can do it there. i was able to contact my pcp and get it done the following day and waited for my results to come back. luckily they came back in a few days and all was well. that could have delayed me longer.

hi 2,
that is great! sometimes the process is fast, while other times the ol' utterance of "hurry up and wait" :anbd: is so very true. make sure that when you fill out the paperwork with your recruiter that you have listed dates after he graduates. you have the option of writing down there different months for which you would like to attend oblc. good luck!
Thanks GetnPhD,
I'm not a new grad or student so that is not a problem. I better get in touch with my recruiter so she can give me the updated version. Who knows what else has changed ? I am also anal so I want all my ducks in a row Now! I'll give her a call since she isnt responding to my e-mail. I would hate to do things one way only to find out it has changed already. Thanks again for update. You guys are a blessing!! Good luck with PhD!!!
you're welcome. being a rn and not a new grad helps! let us know if you need anything else as we will be leaving for oblc in a few short weeks! i hope that we have more answers by then. i have had to learn things myself as my recruiter has not been available due to numerous reasons. good luck!

Oohh,
Thanks for the heads up. I did get my "womens health" exam done Aug 15th, but the results are not posted yet----I will have to call them again!
thanks Gettna,

I have not heard that I need this yet? If I need this I need to get on the ball. I have had a total hysterectomy. The bad nurse and patient that I am, do not go to the dr like I should where that is concerned.
I just wanted to thank everybody for sharing all of their knowledge. After months of preparing my application, getting through the MERB and all their requests for charts, my application was sent in yesterday for October's board! YAY!!
Since I am not in close proximity to a medical unit, I am assigned to the AMPC. Just wondering if there is anyone out there who is in the same boat and can provide a bit of information about it.
