Hi,
I see alot of posts about "Active Duty" OBLC, but none on the Reserve component.
Is anyone else going to Oct 30, 2008...OBLC (RC)?
If so, how are you going? If you are flying---did you book your flight/pay or did HRC do the booking?
On a phone message, Mr. Staples of HRC, said my "orders for OBLC" would not be "cut" until the new fiscal year (Oct. 1st).--so I guess I will get a welcome packet then? I do have a class reservation, that's about all I know.
My main concern is about the tranportation aspect- I don't know whether to book a flight & hotel room now or wait.
Any help from reserve officers would help greatly! :)

Hi OTHD:
If you know for an absolute FACT that you have a slot in the next RC OBC then call the Fort Sam lodging and make reservations for billeting NOW.
Did you get your official orders telling you when and at what time to report to San Antonio?
You also need to make reservations with Carlson Wagonlit Travel. If you live near an Army Post there might be a Carlson Wagonlit Travel there. But like I said, if you know for sure you have a spot in the course then I would make arrangements NOW. BUT you will need to have a copy (or 2) of your orders to submit them. There should be no cost to you for your lodging plus you should be authorized meals.
I know you have this web site, but just in case: www.cs.amedd.army.mil/187MEDBN/ALPHA
If you want I will get the phone number (Carlson) here at Fort Lewis for you I see that you live in Portland (hi neighbor)

Oh my gosh,
Thank you so much Athena. You are always a wealth of information. I will call for the reservations tommorrow.
I do think I am good to go for the course (course validation on ATRRS) and I have my commissioning orders.... so I will give it a try!
Are you enjoying your "Northwest stay?" I haven't been to Ft Lewis, but I do "transports from Portland to Seattle/Tacoma occasionally"....
thanks again :)
Hi there OTD!!
Well, I must admit I kind of miss the sun and heat of El Paso/Fort Bliss/WBAMC. My first week here at Tacoma I had the heat on, ha ha.
I haven't really turned on the heat again but at the end of my day I am hanging out in my ratty old tee shirt, flannel long sleeping pants and a hoody. Sigh. The weather has been amazingly nice: hasn't rained all that much and the days are still sunny and mild.
MAMC is nice. Graduation from the Army critical care nurse course (CCNC) is only about five weeks away! Yipee!! My poor neurons need to rest so tonight, after taking the PALS course I went back to the Inn and took a nap and now I am hanging out with computer and NatGeo on the telly.
Most of the information that you need should be on the back of your orders for OBC. Let me know if I can be of any type of assistance, okay?? I hope that you enjoy your time at OBC. Make use of the other Officers that have prior service.
If you can, try to email once or twice and let "us" know how things are going for you:D

I was stationed at fort lewis for 4+ years and now reside in the general area... it's a great place to be! Let me know if you have any questions about FLWA or the general area!
Hey Just_Cause
Thank's for the offer!
This CCNC is one heck of an "orifice-kicker" and in the nine weeks that I have been here at Fort Lewis, I have gone out twice: Once to this really outrageously great Soul Food restaurant and to the Pullyup Fair and then to the Seattle Pike Market. Had a great time there, as well.
Plus there is a movie theater here on post which you prob know about, charges only $1.25 for movies! Now, if I only had enough free time to go to one, hahahha
Athena,
You need to take a trip down south about 20min

The olympia farmers market is great - check it out! While stationed at FLWA I visited oly area and was so happy I bought a home out there.. save room for some lunch and then drive 5min (around capitol lake) to the falls terrace.

Hi OTD2
Just wanted to say "good luck" and let me know how things go. I'm still waiting till early summer 2009 to join. I would love to hear some feedback. I'm also "older than dirt " and nervous but excited to join.
Hope everything is what you want!! Again, best of luck!!!

Hi Older,
My recruiter made flight arrangements for me. I was told by my PMO that my orders will not arrive until the end of October, so I have yet to see anything. I was working with another recruiter who fwded older, "incorrect" information on my orders. My new recruiter said that everything is still the same and that the incorrect orders will be ok to use until I get the new ones. My dependents, rank, degree, obligation, and missing student loan repayment are areas that are incorrect on my orders, they have told me that they are aware and that they are going to fix them .
I got two emails through my AKO email addy that provided me with a schedule, packing list, inprocessing documents needed, and stated that we will be sharing rooms. I did not get a welcome packet as others have mentioned and have not heard anything from my PCS as others have mentioned.

2soldiers,
Have you started the paperwork yet? It takes a while to get everything in order. The closer it gets to the board, the more the recruiter calls and tells you what else you need. That is where I am at now, trying to make the OCT board. So if you start now, you could still be ready by next summer.
Hi momofabmtcs!
No I didn't start the paperwork so I better get my sorry butt in gear!!
I forgot how long it takes with all the red tape and recieving old records from health history (ie hospitalizations etc). I have a message in to my recruiter about some specific questions so I hope to hear from her soon. I'm going to really start this week so everything is in order before the holidays hit. ( Hope my oldest son is home for some of them) Thanks again for the info!! I'm so glad I found this site
Sometimes it can move quickly, especially if you state that you are available for the next class (i. e. you get boarded in June and provide the dates of Aug, Sept, or Oct). Does that make sense? I know someone who just got boarded at the end of August and finally spoke to someone two weeks ago. They told her that the class was full but put her in anyway. She is going to the Oct course as well. We really did not think that she made it as things took long.
