Hello,
I haven't seen any activity regarding the Army Nurse Corps. There is an impressive amount of AF/Navy posts which is incredible. I heard from a few recruiters that there are a very small amount of positions in Critical Care. I was told there were many Med-Surg and other specialties available however.
I am applying for Active Duty Critical Care ER for 2014. My application was sent to the board 10/31 and I am supposed to hear back the first week of December. So far I haven't been able to find much of any information on the internet about the program.
Is there anyone else out there? :)
It is also rumored that there will be a involuntary separation board coming some time soon for nurses. Presently there is only a involuntary separation board for combat arm Captains & Majors. Since the AN is over strength can see this coming true. The nurses this will effect are the ones who came in 2008 or so until around 3 years ago since they are the most over strength year groups.

Yep, saw this via the HRC site: http://www.army.mil/article/116900/Thousands_of_officers_to_face_boards_for_
I will likely be giving up my seat on the bus in 2015, so there's one less! lol
There should be a "push" to flush some of the top brass as well. There are too many on the top just marking time and not being productive...
I agree with you. At some of these MEDCEN's I hear about brass who make a GS position just so they can take it once they retire.
I understand the whole "take car of our own" mentalitiy. Police and firefighters have that mentality too. But there should still be a vetting process so the most qualified person gets the job, not the one who knows the HR manager.
Those days are coming to a close. Where I am at the present time, GS positions are locked. From higher, the push is that they need workers not bench warmers. There are too many of those. My current section has downsized a bit but I feel it somedays. Most of my GS employees are garbage and before my time in this section, they had mediocre managers to include some that were less than novice at their jobs.
I took over and started holding people accountable. Too much sick call time, not following SOPs/protocols, leaving early or coming late, no accurate narc counts and more... The end result to this, they went crying to higher because I am doing my job.
I hope hope we get another round of raise increases to be put on hold for at least 3 yrs. I also want another furlough. Unfortunately, the garbage is the one that rides the wave during times like this and the valuable, hard working people are the ones that leave.
Every day I go to work, I see too many people with BS job titles and doing nothing when I walk by their office. It disgusts me.
I will stop here and get out of my box. Too early for this.
Only time will tell...
I'm honestly just looking to join either the Guard or Reserves and volunteer for a CST spot. I've been offered a job in the ER that I work at so I'm ok with doing that right out of school I just really really want a chance at deploying with the cultural support team. I have been physically training and am planning on learning Pashtu (as my ex husband who is a Ranger said this would be valuable). I missed out on deploying with my unit when I was a medic and I really want the opportunity to deploy and gain a valuable life experience working with Afghani women and children. Does anyone know how difficult it is to get into the Guard as a nurse now? Thanks!

If I was to do it all over, I would go for PHS. Grow a beard and still in uniform and no moving every 3 years.
