Okay, so a week ago today (Friday), I had an interview. I absolutely fell in love with the hospital, the people, the job, everything. Good hours, decent pay... and, the manager that I interviewed with REALLY made it sound like I pretty much had the job. She said things like "I think you will really like it here" and "Call me on Monday and I'll have a quote for you".. and just really made it sound like I practically had the job. No formal offer at that time, though. But, the interview went INCREDIBLY well; possibly the best interview that I had ever had.
Anyway, so I called her on Monday, rather late in the afternoon... there was no answer on her phone, so I left a message to call me back, I politely referred to the fact that she had asked me to call her on Monday, yadda yadda... she never called me back. So, I dropped her a quick email on Wednesday, asking about my status, was the job still available... no response.
I'm really very disappointed... I thought that, with this job, my ship had finally come in, so to speak. This job is PERFECT for me. I've had a string of not-so-great nursing jobs, and the one that I have right now is the icing on the cake.
I don't know what to do now. I'm wondering if I should contact HR on Tuesday, if I still have not heard anything. My main thought here is that HR decided to reject my application; either someone gave me a bad reference, or they could not contact a reference, or they didn't like the fact that I have a misdemeanor. =( But I had put in an online application long before I filled out the paper application when I went to the interview. So... I don't understand why the misdemeanor would have been a problem; I had put it on the online application.
Will they send me a rejection letter? Most places where I have interviewed in the past have done that, but not all.

I am going to send you a PM, but give me a minute or two to write it up.

You didn't get it and she's too chicken to tell you.

It seems that sometimes people use the cold shoulder method instead of being forthcoming with the bad news. It is hard to believe that anyone would delberately insult a job applicant by refusing to communicate rejection.

You never know. Perhaps something more important than hiring someone new came up.
You might just receive that call.
Its happened to me.

3 things could be happening.
1. You were an excellent candidate but at the last moment someone who was just as great as you but, worked internally wanted the job and now they are going through that process. I've seen it happen many times.
2. She could have been called away due to a personal emergency or because of some internal politics and when she gets back you'll get that call.
3. She's a big chicken and can't face telling you why your suddenly not qualified for the position.
I hope your answer is behind door number 2.

I am not sure what to think, nor are you able to determine what is has taken place. There could be a number of factors and reasons why she has not gotten back with you. She could have died from what you can tell? My advice is to stay cool, calm, and collective. Not shoot your chances with filling her email, and mailbox with notes and letters of attempts in desperation. You will be notified either way, and the worse thing that will happen is that you will see another day!

Don't be disappointed...yet. At the beginning of summer, I applied for a job in home health that I really, really wanted. I interviewed, and was called back for a second interview with some of the other supervisory staff. Each time, they promised to call within a certain time frame with their decision. Each time came and went. My phone calls went unreturned, and I wanted to avoid being a nuisance by calling too much. After several weeks, I assumed that I didn't get the job and was actually feeling angry that nobody bothered to call me. They dragged the entire process out for over a month!
And then...I got the phone call with their job offer. Everyone involved was very apologetic that they had taken so long, but my application just so happened to coincide with "vacation season". Nobody was at the office together in the same time frame long enough to concur on their choice of candidates! Of course, now that I have been at the job for nearly two months, I am starting to realize that there is more than a little bit of disorganization on behalf of the management. Communication is sometimes slower than expected, and not always efficient. I think that may have played a large part in the "job that took forever to nail"!
Thanks for the replies, all. Honestly, at this point... I'm about ready to resign to the fact that I'm stuck where I am, and just deal with it. It's not THE most horrible job in the world, far from it... but lousy, crooked administrators make it way more difficult and stressful than it really should be.
I would just like to not be working 5 night shifts a week anymore. I hardly get to see my daughter much at all anymore, because my husband is working day shifts, which leaves me to have to sit up all day with our 3 year old son, so when my husband gets home in the afternoon, I go to bed. Well, our daughter is in school all day... so I don't see her! All-day day care is an option of course, but it is hard to face the cost of that, when we really don't HAVE to.
There's a weekend 12 hour shifts position open on my unit (child psych) right now... day shift... y'know, it would almost be fun... were it not for the fact that we are NOT ALLOWED to even TOUCH these children, ie. do anything to keep them or the other children safe when they are acting out!
It's just a very frustrating place to work, and this other job looked like a nice one. 12 hour night shifts, adult psych, detox, a few geriatric patients.. a unit with a great reputation, within a bigger hospital.... but it's like... oh well. I just don't care anymore. It's just nice to have a job I suppose.

i was once told by a very wise old person.... "everything happens for a reason". you never know... they could be going through some internal turmoil and have some political issues going on that would be a mess to have to deal with especially being new to the hospital! i know your situation is frustrating between work and home and it’s always worse when you don’t really love your job... but... good things happen to those who wait! i wish you the best of luck with your endeavors!
