Just wondering....
LOL. Yeah, that does seem a little weird. My bladder came out of my body with my first child. I am sure it looked like an alien. but I will NEVER forge the nurse I had. Her name is Bonnie - and that was 7 years ago. She was better than my Dr who was a complete jerk. I could totally do that for someone else. She was the best nurse and came off of her day off to assist in my 26 hour delivery. She was amazing.
Yeah I prob would have passed out right about where your bladder came out of your body... :) Glad you had a great nurse and you are okay!!
Psych - first off it is a completly different degree course in Ireland and Oz, second I think I am a bit too loopy myself.
Detox - we get enough of them where I am now with medical complications to know that I could never do it full on
Dialysis or any chronic illness care (COPD, severe MS etc) oncology saying that I love palliatve care. Theatre scrub nurse those nurses have the patience of a saint standing for maybe 6 hr at a time with a surgeon getting all stressed out.
Maternity - I had enough traumatic experiences there when I was a student. Will keep a bit of mystery for childbirth! Mind you that is another degree as well out here.
Discharge liasion nurse they seem to get the flack from all sides nurses and docs from where they are goingto and where they are from.
Two:1. Burn Center
2. Pediatric Oncology
To me...these nurses are the most amazing on the planet....and they do what I not only couldn't do, but am not brave enough to even stomach.
When I first graduate nursing school I was offered a job in ped onc, but I decided to go to the ED instead. I think I made a wise decision, although I think I probably could have done it, but it's a much harder job to deal with.
Pediatric Oncology- I can't handle suffering children.
Pediatric Hospice- I can't handle dying or dead children.
Pediatric ED- I don't handle child abuse well.
Detox
MR adults
OR- standing for hours on end in a cold room with bullies and sharp objects I can't throw at the bullies? No thanks.
L+D- too boring.
Post-partum- too much teaching in too little time, with too many interfering relatives who think they know everything.
Oddly enough, my pediatrics rotation was in a home for MR and brain injured children. It wasn't bad.
