Just wondering....
I do not particularly like infants, children, or needy pregnant women.
Therefore, I could not envision ever working in pediatrics, L&D, postpartum, PICU, NICU, or any mother/baby units. I also couldn't see myself ever working in a family practice clinic where I'd come into frequent contact with kids, babies, or needy pregnant women.
Absolutely no OR. Would rather chew off my arm than step foot in an OR.
I work ICU and would enjoy L&D I think. Might be my next specialty. But sick kids I can't do, so no PICU or NICU. Also no ED in case a kid comes rolling in. If I could do ED with a guarantee of no kids, I would do it in a heartbeat.

I agree w/ all of the above- plus, no psych or DD pts for me.

I don't think I'd be able to work with babies and kids. I know it takes a very special kind of nurse to be able to do that job. When my son was a week old he was very, very sick, but we had the best nurses in the world. They were so compassionate and strong. Those nurses were my heros and they are part of the reason I chose to go into nursing. After some of the discussions we've had in school I'm starting to lean toward palliative care...of course I would love to do oncology...again it is because of the nurses we had while my husband went through cancer that helped push me in the direction of nursing.
