It seems it's the norm on my unit that nurses are also in touch through social media. It has always been my intention to keep my work and private life separate. However I am finding I have more in common with the other nurses than my friends I grew up with (who I seem to be outgrowing) so I have been considering bending my rule for a handful of nurses.
What are your thoughts on this? Are you connected with coworkers on social media?

I'm conflicted. I'm FB friends with a few coworkers, but oddly enough, not FB friends with the people I feel the closest connection to. Weird.

No. If you search this site you will find many stories about the pitfalls of being FB friends with your nursing coworkers.

Nope. I have a strict policy of not fb friending my coworkers no matter how much we get along or how much I like him/her. I wont even if we hang out outside of work!

Just one, but we've been friends in real life for 10 years, so we really don't talk about jobs or Nurse stuff on Facebook.
Doing it at a restaurant over margaritas is MUCH more satisfying lol.

Yes, but I only use Facebook for light and/or happy things. Nothing that could come back to bite me at work.

I think it depends on the coworker.
I know that I generally don't post anything online that I would be uncomfortable with my employer knowing about so having coworkers on there doesn't really seem to bother me because I have nothing for them to rat me out about.
But like anyone, I have coworkers I don't like and prefer not to have them on my Facebook.
There's always an option to customize who you share posts with, so you can put these coworkers in a group and just hide your posts from that group and they'll never see it.

Nope, none of my coworkers are in my Facebook. The only people on my Facebook is family and a few friends. For school previous cohorts in my nursing program have done a group on Facebook. If my cohort decides to do that I will be using a separate account for that. My main account is for keeping up with family and a few friends.

Oh my yes. My coworkers are some of my best friends and we socialize regularly outside of work. Tons of them are my FB friends.

Don't have a facebook, so it's not an issue.
