I personally cannot live without makeup.I feel plain and unkept without makeup. It's apart of me.It makes me feel feminine. Will I be able to continue wearing makeup up on the job?
I guess I won't be working in the OR then....that bites! I love surgery too, but I would feel too self-conscious all day. :uhoh21:
Hey!:uhoh21: I work in the OR and without sounding too conceited, I have been told I am most definitely NOT homely, LOL. You just have to find a good makeup that stays put. The hats can make your hair a little messy but I've found that when I have long hair, it's easier. I just run a brush through it and voila, it looks nice again. I have also found that OR nurses tend to look younger than their age, at least around here. Most of us have really nice complexions, believe it or not. I think it's because we're hardly ever outside. Maybe the chemicals and gases have something to do with it as well. As a side note, over the past few days I've noticed a lot of bashing of OR nurses in a couple of posts. Be nice to us-you never know when you might need surgery and we're the ones who will be keeping an eye on you and making sure that not everyone in the OR sees you naked!
That is why I don't work OR.;) Those blue hats are not attractive.
The only time I've gone back is to be the baby nurse for cesareans.
And no one looks at me because they are all busy with mom . . . and I can hightail it out as soon as the baby is stable.

They make really cute cloth scrub hats with various patterns, which are what a lot of us wear. I have long thick hair, so the little paper hats don't work for me.

I know - all the nurses wear them - the docs just wear the blue ones.
However, I do not look good in any kind of headgear. My face needs hair. . . . that came out wrong . . . not hair ON my face, hair AROUND my face. :rotfl:

Yes, Miss Tammy is moved on to her great reward.
Why are you asking about wearing makeup?
I went to school with the nuns and we were allowed to wear it - as long as we kept it toned down. Yes, we had the nursing caps too - but we were progressive class and voted them out! And the nuns up held our decision. Good ole St. Frances Med Ctr. Nursing School in Trenton, NJ.
i wear a little bit of makeup.... but usually just enough to cover my pimples, mascara and some lip gloss. by the end of 12 hours, you melt anyways... lol. and i usually just flop my hair in a ball... used to spend alot of time flat ironing and blow drying. bent over to start an IV on a little old man one night and he reached out and grabbed my pretty hair.... with the same poopy hand he was playing in his diaper with. eww
Yes I do wear natural looking makeup. To me it reflects a professional look - I do care about my appearance!
Unfortunatly it can be easily overdone - never a good look in any profession..particularly ours! :uhoh21:
I try to pick makeup that holds up well (ie stays on during the shift without melting!). I usually touch it up on my break. but its not my top priority.
Interestingly where I live (New Zealand) most nurses I have seen don't wear any makeup.

Unstoppable mascara by mabelline, that stuff is good. Era face, waterproof, sweatproof, is good too. I dont do well with maintaining it but hell I make an effort in the am, part of getting dressed to me. Also, the one plus of being a woman, is we can change what nature gave us a bit.
