April 2008 NCLEX test takers, COME ON IN!

Published

Per the request of janina08 ;) I've started the April NCLEX takers support group. When do you take it? What are you using to study? Would anyone like to review any of the systems/meds that he/she feels weakest on? Let's keep each other in our prayers and good thoughts as we go through one of the biggest experiences of our lives. :) :nurse:

s/s of right sided heart failure

1.jugular vein distention

2.hepatomegaly

3.right upper quadrant pain

s/s of left sided heart failure

1.dyspnea, orhtopnea

2.paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea

3.fatigue

4.nonproductive cough and crackles

5.tachycardia

Thank you Micha.

Best way to remmeber the right or left sided failure is:

Right sided, think of right atrium - all the fluid backs up out of right atrium into superior/inferior venacava to - whereever the blood was coming from - hence the s/s

Left sided: Think of blood backing up into lungs hence the s/s.

correct me if I'm wrong. thnks

Quick question:

When you have a vital signs question for 13 year old patient, which number would you look at to compare if it is normal or abnormal?

Would you use the Adult's parameter or the normal vital sign for the 5-12 year olders? Thnks.

This is a response to tips for SATA: Hi there, I'm new to the website- actually found it as I was freaking out trying to decide whether or not I passed. I took the test Friday the 11th but probably won't find out until tuesday- the waiting is the worst. But yes, I got a ton of SATA questions- maybe 20 or so. And my main suggestion is not to freak out as you see SATA after SATA bc I'm pretty sure that's what I did. I'm sure the video camera picked me up shaking my head for about 30 minutes straight. And then also- try not to overthink the question- think of it in pieces. Like for example- look at the first choice. Decide whether it is definitely correct or definitely incorrect. Once you've made it through every choice, then go back to the one's you are not sure about. For several of the SATA I realized that there was usually one or two I wasn't sure about. Then ask yourself why you are unsure. Are you just trying to talk yourself into bc it could be? If so, I probably wouldn't include it. Now, I have no idea if I passed! So maybe you shouldn't listen to me haha, but as I left the test- I wished I had approached it this way. Hope this helps.

Hello All.

Just took the test and now freaking out. I'm just wondering what peers have said about trying to decide if you passed or not. I shut off at 75 questions and I've heard this is good, but is it really? Also, I had a ton of SATA questions but the topics for some of them were basic disease processes but then a choice or 2 that threw me off. Do you consider SATA's to be difficult? Do you think NCLEX realizes that SATAs are difficult or do they assume that since it's a simple disease process that it should be easy? I'm trying to decide what is considered a hard question and what is considered easy bc I studied a lot but felt like my questions were from out in left field. The worrying is driving me crazy. Any words of wisdom from those who have taken the exam?:redbeathe

Hey, i took it today also for the third time. I had 75q's. I also had many sata and priority. I remember reading a post that discussed sata and priority q's being higher level. the last 2 times i tested i didnt have many sata or priority and i failed with 75 & 265. so im guessing/hoping that many sata when the comp shuts off is a good sign... Good Luck and kit.

try to keep a + outlook while u wait:weathersunsmall:

Rizapride, so hard to keep those books away (feel like still left so much to cover or revise again). As the day gets nearer, feel more info needs to be covered. I'm just freaking out. Fearfactor has kicked in officially! Sometimes studying, not being able to focus or concentrate. Please God, I hope that doesn't happen on exam time :bluecry1: Someone :plsebeg: write something nice and positive, if you have spare time. Sorry, had to vent somewhere :stone. thank u. Sometimes, relaxed ... sometimes, just out of this world freaked out like a manic :lol2: and confused an disoriented :chuckle :D And then, today while studying at one point I felt like I am heading towards alzheimers coz I can't remember what I have studied :uhoh3:, like forget after studying u know. Oh jezzz. Thank you for reading :nuke: God bless. I need to find a way to stop the mind from racing at times - that is when I make the silliest mistakes :stone - vent :banghead:

Altered thought process r/t NCLEX as evidenced by forgetfulnes of valuable information/s.:banghead:

MomenTs, you're not the only one. I am staying positive because faith is the only thing holding me up right now. I don't think I'm ready at all. I keep getting these horrible scores in Kaplan, NCLEX 3500, even Saunders. :crying2: I am soooo scared I won't pass, but at the same time, I've been praying with all my heart to God because He knows why I want to do this job. He knows that I want to do it for Him. I'm just hoping for His wisdom and grace on that day and that I pass once and I'm done. I don't think I can take this stress more than once. I'm hiding it from my family because I don't want them to get stressed out too. *sigh*

I'm sorry everybody. I don't mean to be a downer. I'm just scared. :lol2: The next three weeks are going to be pretty big for all of us here. I wish all of us luck, success, and calm in order to take this exam. :)

Thank you Mave. Me, I have been doing saunders in study mode so don't even know my scores and now I don't even want to know it, now that the test date is right there, don't want to stress myself more. And KAPlan, Oh God! I haven't done too many questions, but the ones I did, they seemd harder in comparision to Saunders. Yeah, hun, that's all : keep praying and just keep moving forward, forward and forward. Easier said than done init :) Like my mind was racing and I couldn't focus and concentrate today :s. May God and his guidance be with all of us. Amen.
