Per the request of janina08 I've started the April NCLEX takers support group. When do you take it? What are you using to study? Would anyone like to review any of the systems/meds that he/she feels weakest on? Let's keep each other in our prayers and good thoughts as we go through one of the biggest experiences of our lives. :)

good luck to genny0616 and laurakfels on your nclex tomorrow!!!!!!!!!
god bless you both!
Congratulations to all new RNs and good luck to all of us April test takers!!! Any advise from those who passed? What did you do 2 weeks before your test date???
I only had 1 week to study. I took a 3 day NCLEX review from a teacher at my school (based on the Saunders 4th edition review guide). I did about 1500 questions and focused heavily on content (patho). I also did the questions in the Kaplan purple review book. I studied about 3 hours per day for a week. Passed with 75 questions. My advice is review any areas that you know you are week in (maternity was mine), then think about what the most common ailments are across the country. Diabetes, HTN, other Cardiovascular issues, basic oncology patho, Pnuemonia, Liver disease, HIV. Know infection precautions. Airborne, vs Droplet and who can room together. Positioning. Know what SIMS/Trendelenburg etc... mean and think about the anatomy when getting a positioning question. Take fun breaks from the books so that you don't burn out. Good luck everyone!
thank u ! im weak in cardio..n pharm...
Pharm is hard to study for. What I did was I made a list of every drug that appeared in a question that I wasn't familiar with so that I could pull the drug card (or look it up in the drug book and make a flash card) and this way I could at least memorize what it was used for/classification. This will lead you to a lot of the side effects too. You can't remember them all but it was the best thing that I could come up with. Try to look for suffixes that are familiar such as:
ipines- calcium channel blockers
olol- beta blocker
actone- potassium sparing diuretic
pril- ACE inhibitor
sartan- Angiotensin conversion blocker
these are just a few. It doesn't work for everything, and there are a few drugs that wll have a suffix that fits into one of these categories but isn't in the same classification, but for the most part it is a pretty decent system for those who have a hard time just memorizing names. If I have time tomorrow I will try to find my list and post more.
hi OR2CA,
Two weeks before my test I did about 100 questions every morning, and after that made a list of commonly tested topics and also my weak points and re read those...I must confess though that I am used to last minute reading....so I did do a kind of overall content "look through" where I just skimmed over everything.....(may not be a good idea for everybody!!!) Please read infection control ....following websites may help...All the best to you!!...you have prepared well ...just take your time with the questions on the test..Will definitely pray for you!!!!!
A mnemonic I made for airborne infections was...
MY-measles
Chicken-C POX(varicella)
HaZ-Disemminated Herpes Zoster
TB -Tuberculosis

To Janina08 and RNbyMay08,
God bless and Good luck to your test tomorrow!
Janina08,
Eat and sleep well, so the baby inside your tummy won't disturb you while testing. The first time I took the test, I was knocked up too, wasn't able to concentrate well during the test because my baby inside my tummy was too grumpy. So today, relax, relax, eat and sleep well. Be sure to bring something to eat/munch..
Well I took my exam this morning for the second time. (I failed last time with 120 questions)
Today my computer shut off at 75 questions.
I had about 8-10 SATA.
3 Math.
Tons of priority questions.
No delegation questions that I can recall.
Quite a few of medication questions, especially at the end. I feel like the last 4 or 5 questions were all medication questions.
Now I must wait.
