April 2008 NCLEX test takers, COME ON IN!

Published

Per the request of janina08 ;) I've started the April NCLEX takers support group. When do you take it? What are you using to study? Would anyone like to review any of the systems/meds that he/she feels weakest on? Let's keep each other in our prayers and good thoughts as we go through one of the biggest experiences of our lives. :) :nurse:

Do you think it has to do with your vessels? Like burn ppl get cellulitis too right?

It's the fluid that has escaped from the cells into the extracellular fluid right? So, I really not know how to connect the dot in that case, getting the fluid back into the vessels by applying hot or cold compress. But with vessels, with warm compress, it will vasodilate the vessels and hence the accumulated fluid can flow back easily. But how will that be connected with the fluid accumulated in the extracellular fluid? Hm... Am I on a right track? or I'm on some isolated planet talking nonsense?

warm compress is all about vasodilation and supplying the affected part with blood.. just remember that hot=increased blood flow and cold compress is usually to stop blood from flowing.. its all about vasodilation and vasoconstriction :nuke:

Exactly. :)

Guys, is there anything that anyone is struggling with the most? I know it's different for all of us, but if we can get a similar census going on who has the most trouble with what, we could all probably help each other much better than one person doing one thing and another waiting for something else. :)

I think we need a vote.

Thank you.

So in case of cellulitis, the tissue is already inflamed. If we apply warm compress, it will cause vasodilation thus causing more blood circulation to the affected area, which in turn will cause even more inflammation the already inflamed area.

So, is it correct to apply warm compress to the inflamed site in cellulitis? What is the correct answer? Is it warm compress or cold compress? Applying warm compress would only inflame the already inflamed area more, isn't it?

So, in what conditions do you apply the principle or warm/cold compress? Has someone got a better understanding of this? Please make it simple and easy. Thank you so much :nurse:'s.

Some one please post hot and cold therapy principles. That will make things lil bit easier.

This is what I found about the use of heat and cold therapy when it comes to inflammation. The site talks about the benefits of using both heat and cold to treat inflammation. For heat therapy, it says that it increases the bloodflow and "makes connective tissue more flexible".

As for cold compresses, it says that it can be used in acute inflammation.

I hope this helps.

Hi everyone, please count me in. I just took the test for the 4th time and failed :crying2: I feel so disappointed and discouraged. I feel that this is what I like to do but at the same time I'm having doubts if I'm smart enough to be a nurse. :crying2: . I've been out of school for 3 years and have two little toddlers. I'm working full time . I've been studying like crazy but still couldn't pass the exam. Please help me where to find Suzanne's tips so I can be hopeful again. I'm planning to retake it some time in April.

Suzannes tip is the first sticky of the student forum.

You need to have the Saunders review to follow it and you need to complete the first tip before you contact Suzanne for the rest of the plan.

You must allow yourself at least 45 days after you complete the first tip. You may want to leave booking a new exam date until your confident you have enough time to complete this comfortably as it sounds like you have your hands full with your family and a full time job.

Take your time and feel confident before putting yourself through the stress of NCLEX - know you are fully prepared this time. It would be a shame for you to fail again in your haste to pass, so please relax and try and focus it sounds like you are in a blind panic at the moment and probably not studying effectively.

Wishing you well. Jane
