Hi! Is anyone applying to UCLA's MECN program? Last year I applied and wasn't accepted. I believe they accepted around 12%. They had 70 spaces down from 90 the previous year.
@ElizabethH736 are you sure that was the same email? I remember I got something similar when I submitted the app but I got the official "complete" one this morning. Im asking because I remember you said you had a transcript pending.. just something to be on the lookout for! Good luck!
I'm sure it was the same email because I submitted my application very early. My email said my application was officially complete. When I was talking about my transcript I was referring to my final grade in epidemiology. I was waiting for that to be posted to by final transcript. And I also mentioned that I emailed an unofficial transcript to the recruitment coordinator who said that was acceptable. Especially since epidemiology isn't technically required to be completed before the application is due. So I'm good to go! 👠good luck to you too!
For anyone who's about the epidemiology requirement, don't be! I knew I would be applying to the MECN program when I was a sophomore at UCLA, so I took the Epi class (Nursing 50) in the summer between my junior and senior years (because nursing classes were restricted to nursing majors during the regular school year). EVERYONE except me in that class was already accepted into the MECN program for that fall, and I was the odd woman out since I still had one more year of undergrad left, PLUS the year off I knew I would be taking. So don't worry, everyone who doesn't have that requirement will bond a little earlier during that summer (something I was definitely envious of!) :)
i think one of the reasons they accept so few epi courses is because they want a specific things in the course. in fact, i think the admissions officers prefer that this course be taken at UCLA.
@ang117. I have yet to take Chem 14B... I see you've posted on the Emory thread. Would you choose UCLA over Emory?
Hi lagirl_1989! I really don't know yet, and UCLA won't send out decisions for a few months. So many factors play a role, mostly tuition and degree. UCLA is definitely most cost-effective, and I'll ALWAYS always be a Bruin at heart, but the MECN CNL is basically just a master's version of the BSN, not a specialized MSN degree. With Emory's program I'd end up with both a BSN+MSN at the end, with the MSN in Nurse-Midwifery or a Women's Health NP, and that's my ultimate goal. Who knows....I'll cross that bridge when (if?) I get to it!

Just to inform you all, if you get in and still need to take Epi, do not take it through BYU. It is nice because it is online but no one ever responds to e-mails. The book sucks and more than anything u stress more than you should. It does save you time and money but not the stress of possibly not passing. Its a big mess.
Good Luck everyone!
