Applying to UCLA MECN to start Fall 2015?

Hi! Is anyone applying to UCLA's MECN program? Last year I applied and wasn't accepted. I believe they accepted around 12%. They had 70 spaces down from 90 the previous year.

I was rejected last year; they told me that my SOP was the problem. I went to the info session and I left a little discouraged because it seemed that students from the UC system get priority for admission.

I didn't see very many minorities represented in the panel either. I hope I can get into the program this time, the school is very competitive. I wish they have interviews. It is very hard to approach everything in the SOP.

@ rockko. I do not believe that they give priority to UC graduates. That is more likely at private universities. Did they say specifically, what could be improved on the SOP?

Perhaps was the impression I got from the two panels I heard. every single person in the panels went to an UC. It'll be harder for me since I have a foreign degree.

I think the SOP has to represent you professionally. It also has to include why you want to be a nurse, clinical and personal experiences that might had lead you to it.

Hi everyone! This waiting game is making me so nervous. I'm waiting for my university (CSUN) to award my BA degree on my transcript so I can order it and send it to UCLA. I took the epidemiology class this past fall semester and my final transcript will show that as well. However, an admissions and records representative from my school said they wouldn't start awarding degrees and finalizing transcripts until after January 20th. I emailed the student recruitment and admissions coordinator from UCLA's program to find out if the prolonged wait for my final transcript would be an issue.

His response was a bit confusing because at first he said it wouldn't be an issue, but then he said my application will be reviewed without my final epidemiology grade. I really hope this doesn't affect my chances of admission into the program. He didn't mention anything about me sending my final transcript after the 20th. I'm a bit nervous! 😞

The info session I went to last summer had two people on the panel who were from cal state schools, not UCs. One of them was from cal state northridge and the other was from cal state long beach I believe. At the info session I attended, two out of the four people on the panel were minorities. I believe they have a diverse population of students in the program 😊 did you apply to any other programs besides UCLA?

Also.. I sent in my official transcripts with my fall grades but is there a way that we can still upload them to the online system as well? Not sure if this is still a possibility since the deadline was back in Nov.

You're so lucky your school finished processing your transcript already 😞I wish my school would get it done faster ...

And no, you would be unable to upload anything on your online application because the deadline has passed. I already checked to see if I could change something.

Did anyone else apply without the epidemiology class? I haven't taken it, and figured that I will if I'm admitted.

I didnt take epidemiology yet. I remember at the info session they said they know its not offered at the CCs and if you get accepted just take it in the summer.
