Hi! Is anyone applying to UCLA's MECN program? Last year I applied and wasn't accepted. I believe they accepted around 12%. They had 70 spaces down from 90 the previous year.
That's a good point too, we have to consider the job market once we graduate. I did apply to some direct entry NP programs because I'm pretty sure what I want to go into, but they're all so competitive so I applied all over basically. One caveat with the direct entry programs is that they do teach you the nursing foundation, just VERY accelerated so you'll be done faster. Pros vs. cons!
Hey guys! I figured I would jump in and say that I also applied for the Fall 2015 cohort. I applied last year as well but unfortunately was denied. This year I tried to focus my essay into more of a "statement of purpose", rather than a "personal statement", so hopefully that helps. I also am a UCLA alumni. Hopefully the admission team gets it together this year a little bit better, as last year news of acceptance/rejection/waitlist was EXTREMELY prolonged and drug out, and everyone involved was pissed and miserable (see last years thread), so hopefully this year notices are more punctual/professional! :) Good luck!
@b2991 ... My overall GPA isn't the best just because I was a sorry excuse for a student in my early years. My prerequisite grades aren't bad, mostly A's, maybe one or two B's. I don't think my SOP is as good as I had thought it was at the time either. I used very simple language as well so I don't know if that's going to make them think my writing isn't at a gradate level.
About 2 months ago I was actually asked to submit my grade for my last prerequisite I was taking last semester. I don't know if this is a good thing (like they're actually considering me and acceptance was dependent on that last grade) or if it's just protocol to ask every applicant for all their grades prior to acceptance.
@xochrlstinaxo. don't worry too much! they asked for grades from everyone. it'll help you if you got a good grade.
I still have the second part of chemistry to take over spring quarter. (UCLA's chemistry is a 3 course sequence over quarter system). it's so competitive that I'm not keeping my hopes up too high.

@ang117, once a bruin always a bruin. There's a certain pride in being a Bruin. That being said, i am still waiting from other schools as well. I think UCLA is more cost effective since we'll have in-state tuition while Emory is not a 1 yr, private school, lots more debt, but you'll come out as NP. I am not sure about NP or CRNA at this point, since everyone is going for that, i'm worried it might become over saturated. I also didn't apply to any direct entry NP programs because I'm not in nursing school yet, and want to set a foundation before setting a mind on a specialty.
