Hi, every one
I applied to 5 institutions for the fall 2010 entrance- Riohodo, la harbor, cerittos, PCC, Elac...I am sad because Riohondo has denied my application. I wonder if they actually do the lottery or they look at your GPA. My GPA is 3.8 and I got A's all my prerequites...is it a good chance to get in???...Also, Does anyone know which schools are currently accepting RN applications...I wanna apply more...I am too worried...I really need to get in this year...private schools or out of state schools are fine...please let me know soon...thanks in advanced

I feel your pain! I applied to 4 schools and have not been accepted anywhere either and have a 3.8 gpa in my prereqs too. Cypress does a combination of points (based on GPA, other classes taken and personal stuff ie- bilingual, working/volunteer experience) and chronological time since you applied. even if you do not get chosen based on your gpa, you will go on the wait list and eventually you will get in. they only accept applications during the first 10 working days of September for spring and fall admission of the following year. The other community colleges I applied to, Goldenwest and Cerritos both do a lottery which sucks because you are lumped in with all of the yea-hoos who barely skated by with C's after busting your rear to get A's. Cerritos just closed their application period in March, and they only accept apps once a year too. Goldenwest is going to once a year apps, and I think they are in January, but am not sure because I got mine in just before they changed their policies. good luck!

If you have a CNA certificate or an LVN license, then Western Governors University is an option. Their next cohort starts in September. http://www.wgu.edu
Hi, Leahfull - thanks!! I wonder when I will hear from cerritos college and LA harbor college. California is so competitive... Will they inform applicants who don't get in...or just any qualified students
Hi,Caliotter - I don't have CNA nor LVN... I am very anxious now...keeping my figure crossed!!!!
The nursing coordinator at Cerritos told me that they will let us know in May-ish whether or not we have been admitted, or put on the alternates list. She also said that with your letter letting you know that you were not choosen, there will be a form to sign and mail back if you want to stay in the applicant pool for the next time they do the lottery. they keep your record on file and will keep you in the pool as long as you let them know you still want to be considered. as far as I know, they only accept qualified applicants, so as long as you met with a counselor and they signed off on your prereq's, you wont be denied because you dont qualify. at least with cypress you know that some day you will get admitted, it may be 5 years from now, but you will still get in.
I would suggest you get a CNA certificate. It doesn't take long and it might help you with the admissions process at several schools, not just WGU.

As far as SoCal community colleges, I applied at Citrus & PCC. I was pretty confident about my acceptance into both schools until I found out community college ADN programs are cutting back. For example, Citrus informed me they're only accepting 24 students for fall 2010. As if they're not competitive enough already, now it might get even worse. Fortunately for me, I was recently accepted into CSULB BSN program. I know the wait sucks & wanted to wish everyone good luck!

Hi Jenny! I have applied to some of the same schools as you (Cerritos, ELAC and LAHC). As far as I know, they are *ALL* lottery based. LAHC has a double lottery- (1) to place you for the TEAS and the second is to actually "get in" to the program. Cerritos is VERY strict--make sure your pre-req's are signed by a counselor and that you DO NOT HAVE ANY "W's" as they count a "W" as a "repeat". ELAC pretty much guarantees "qualified" (2.5 and above) applicants admission, but the wait can be up to 3 semesters. I am a student at LAHC currently and I went in to the nursing office to ask when we'd be hearing something. They said we will get a response *either way* by the end of May. LAHC received 698 applications for 49 slots. From what I have heard, LAHC favors students who took ALL of their sciences at their school. I can't get a "formal" statement on that...but it is the "buzz" on campus. My friend got into LAHC on her first try- ALL her sciences were from LAHC. For those reading this that are considering nursing- I HIGHLY recommend you take you sciences at LAHC, if you can. The teachers are AMAZING! especially for Physio and Anat. and for Micro. :)
Hi, Trogina
thank you very much..your information is a big help!!! I am a student at ELAC, and we will hear from them by June...
Wow, 698 applications for 49 slots....lol...
per ur statement :"LAHC favors students who took ALL of their sciences at their school." where have u heard that from? I am so anxious now. My first choice is LAHC:crying2:
What classes are u taking while waiting?
does 4 years university also have lottery process and waiting list???
wish u luck...trogina!!! you will get in this time:)
I have just heard that through the "grapevine" at LAHC- like I said, I don't have solid proof. Please don't stress over that! I am taking 2 Philosophy classes and Sociology I am just trying to raise some grades ( I have taken before) that were "B" to "A". I don't know about the 4 year programs, as I already graduated from USC with a double major in Psychology and Theatre. I would just call all the 4 year schools you're interested in and get that info.
Good Luck- and let me know if you hear anything from ELAC, LAHC or Cerritos!
:)
