Application for Exam at California Board of Nursing - Help!

hi! i hope someone can help me. i am a graduate of nursing in the philippines (batch 2009) and i'm planning to apply for the state boards in california. i have been checking the website www.rn.ca.gov for information.

in the information i got from the site it says, "transcripts are required from all colleges and/or universities you attended that reflect courses required for a degree in nursing, including general education course requirements and all nursing courses."

before i started to take up nursing on 2006, i was already a graduate of ab mass communication on 2002 from a university different from where i finished my nursing. i also took some units (for another course) from another university before i shifted to mass comm. in both these schools, some minor subjects (like english, philosophy, algebra, etc) were credited in my nursing curriculum. my question is, would i need to request for transcript from them too? then if these transcripts have to be directly sent from the schools to the california board of nursing, then they will have to arrive separately - will that be okay?

also, would the transcript need to indicate "for foreign exam purposes only"?

thank you.

alma

Otherwise if your subjects was accepted and credited for your nursing then you may find that it is already included on your transcripts so only need to send it the once.

my transcript already reflected all the units from my previous uni plus all units from my nursing school. i take it that this would be sufficient? thanks for the reply.

@alma_kyle

did you get to finish all your transcript requests? from both schools or just the last one where you got your nursing degree? also, did you ask the school to indicate "for foreign exam purpose only" in your transcript or left it blank? thanks for the reply.

yes, i have just finished requesting for transcripts from both schools where i have graduated. at first i did think that one transcript from the last university i've attended would be sufficient since all my records were automatically sent from one university to the next. but i read the pdf file from ca and it said "transcripts are required from all colleges and/or universities you attended that reflect courses required for a degree in nursing, including general education course requirements and all nursing courses." plus, shubichilipepper here has written that this was what she had done. and when i requested a transcript from the first school where i have graduated, they did confirm to me that i would really need to do this. they have had previous batches of nursing students and i assume they are familiar with this.

i specifically requested the registrar's office from both schools to indicate in the transcript "for examination purposes".

i have one question, though. when i requested for transcript from my first school, i didnt give them the form for breakdown of nursing subjects since what i finished there was non-nursing. i hope this is ok, (or is it not?)

my school where i finished nursing did provide me a completed breakdown of educational program for international nursing programs and

nursing program verification to come along with the transcript. would that be sufficient?

@ alma_kyle

That was true also in my case, since in the Breakdown form for nursing Programs enumerated only the Nursing Subjects(theory hours and Clinical Practice hours),I opted not to gave the first school with the form. I guess no problem with that, well in any case, they can always verify because they will received from you the 2 transcripts from 2 schools.

,,yes, breakdown, plus the verification plus the transcript..sealed by the registrar in one envelope.

goodluck,,

Hi torque15,

Usually our Nursing program transcript reflect those units we have taken from the previous one, but i guess the reason why there is still a need to forward or send the TOR from first school so that the BRN can verify if those units were really taken by the applicant'and were reflected or transcribed to the recent transcript (Nursing).

goodluck,

..

shubichilipepper and alma_kyle,

:yeah:

thanks so much for the clarifications you have both outlined.

this will guide me and others who are also planning to sit for the NCLEX.

gosh, this just means i'll also have to request another set of TOR from my first uni :)

How would I know if I needed to have a Translation of International Academic Credentials form accomplished? My Transcript of Records is in English but I have minor subjects in Filipino like "Sining ng Pakikipagtalastasan", etc. Does that mean I would need to have mine translated?

hI alma_kyle,

I guess no need to do that. I do not remember that I made one when I submitted my credentials. Usually, the registrar's office together with the Breakdown units form, they provide the Description of the subjects(major subjects) .

hope this helps.

goodluck..

Thank you so much! You've been a great help already! I have one more question...

Last week, i just got my third set of fingerprint cards sent to me by Ca BRN. (The first two sets - was folded by the postman when he left it by my gate. I was very disappointed.) I am planning to go to NBI this week to have my fingerprints done. Can you tell me, are there things that i need to know? How much do i pay at NBI? And how do i protect the card from being bent particularly while my fingerprints are done?

hi!

I do not remember anymore how much exactly the fee for fingerprinting, but one thing for sure it will not exceed 500 pesos, there's a fee of 20 pesos before entering the office then they will give you the receipt thaT you're going to present to the guard.(by the way,the NBI Carriedo office is just a walking distance from the Quiapo church).

I'm not so sure anymore if its on the 3rd floor or 4th that you have to sign in a logbook, that is for those who are accomplishing all those fingerprint cards...ask any personnel there just tell them its a fingerprinting for FBI needed in the states for your NCLEX application, they knew it already because everyday there are lots and lots of applicants accomplishing this fingerprinting cards from different states just for NCLEX. Last month I went there to renew my NBI clearance, and saw a long line of applicANTS for fingerprinting, be there early.

In my case, I completed 2 sets of fingerprint cards, sent one with the application packet, but i kept the other, I just wanted to be sure then that just in case they needed another one or there something wrong

with the one I sent,I can readily forward another without the hassle of going back to the NBI again. My other classmate then accomplished 3, she sent the 2 copies, kept the remaining card for herself. :)

As For protection, once you are done with fingerprinting, you will be given an alcohol swabs for 5 pesos fee before you get hold of the card, then place it in a folder or envelope.

Wish you goodluck in your application.

hope this helps.

God bless!!! :)

Thanks for the quick reply.

Today I got my Transcripts from both schools where I have graduated college. Both are sealed but in my possession. Now I am wondering if it's okay to send them both in one package thru Fedex? Or would they have to be sent individually from a post office near the school? I mean, does it matter where they were sent from? Would the Ca BRN question it if they came together considering that these are transcripts from two different universities in two different cities?

As long as they are sealed and are stamped across the lip where the seal is you should be OK to send together.
