Application for Exam at California Board of Nursing - Help!

hi! i hope someone can help me. i am a graduate of nursing in the philippines (batch 2009) and i'm planning to apply for the state boards in california. i have been checking the website www.rn.ca.gov for information.

in the information i got from the site it says, "transcripts are required from all colleges and/or universities you attended that reflect courses required for a degree in nursing, including general education course requirements and all nursing courses."

before i started to take up nursing on 2006, i was already a graduate of ab mass communication on 2002 from a university different from where i finished my nursing. i also took some units (for another course) from another university before i shifted to mass comm. in both these schools, some minor subjects (like english, philosophy, algebra, etc) were credited in my nursing curriculum. my question is, would i need to request for transcript from them too? then if these transcripts have to be directly sent from the schools to the california board of nursing, then they will have to arrive separately - will that be okay?

also, would the transcript need to indicate "for foreign exam purposes only"?

thank you.

You are aware that California will not issue you a license without a SSN and you have 3 years to submit one and with retrogression that is currently going to take longer. You may want to consider a good read in this forum on California and maybe look at another state

Otherwise if your subjects was accepted and credited for your nursing then you may find that it is already included on your transcripts so only need to send it the once.

Try doing a search as I am sure something similar has been asked before

Oh yeah I noticed in the form 'Request for Transcript' there was a space for SSN. So you mean I have to get a Social Security Number first before I even submit the requirements to the Ca BON? How do I get a SSN?

You can submit your application without a SSN you will not however get a license issued without it. A SSN can only be obtained once in the US and proof of a valid work/immigrant visa.

The state will give you 3 years to provide a SSN and will destroy your file including NCLEX results if you do not provide them with it or ask for an extension.

Much has already been written about Ca so suggest a search and good read

hi alma_kyle,

i've taken my nclex-rn under ca brn last year. ..got some credited subjects from my other course as well,,,that is why i decided to request for tor in that school, and of course another request of transcript from my nursing school. it doesnt matter if both requests arrived on separate dates, coz registrar's office of different schools dealt with it differently (some quickly process it, others take few weeks). i dont know with your school if they do it the way my schools did it. once they filled out the form, they let me double-check it for any omission then after that, they sealed the envelope and put their signature outside. i've seen on my tor, they placed "for examination purposes". then, i mailed it myself.

hope this helps..

goodluck..;)

So I assume that the Completed Application for Licensure by Examination Form, photos, and other requirements - you had to mail them separate from the transcripts too?

,,yes, you have to mail them separately. Make sure that everything is complete for a smooth processing of your application. I suggest that you print the checklist found in the CA BRN website, it helps a lot .

goodluck!!

hi

alma_kyle,

In the CA BRN website, you can find there the requests for the fingerprint card. You can ask for as much as 5 copies. ( well, just in case you made a mistake in filling out the card) And then, once it arrived to you thru mail, you can accomplished it at NBI Carriedo ( they are the one authorized to sign it here in Phil.). yes, this one should be included in the application packet, PLUS the BANK DRAFT( if you have an existing account in Metrobank, BPI ,or other banks, you can ask 'em about this, just tell 'em its needed for your NCLEX application, they knw already what to do, PLUS photos.. ( take a look of the checklist..so that everything is included..)before you send 'em. Check and check and check ahehe.

When i had my application sent to them, I enclosed the bank draft, plus other requirements included in the checklist( CA BRN site)..and i sent it thru DHL or FEDEX. Keep the tracking number with you so that you can follow it up if it doesnt reach its destination on time.

hope this helps.. ;)

goodluck.

hi alma_kyle, I've taken my NCLEX-RN under CA BRN last year. ..got some credited subjects from my other course as well,,,that is why I decided to request for TOR in that school, and of course another request of transcript from my nursing school.

would it be really necessary to request for two transcripts? one from the school of your first course and another from your nursing school? i am assuming that since the first school already forwarded your transcript to your nursing school, then the school which granted your nursing degree would be the one to verify your nursing qualification (education). thanks for the reply.
