Applicants to PDX area Nursing Schools 2010

Published

Hi fellow applicants for 2010!!

I wanted to start a thread for all of us who are applying to various nursing schools in the area for 2010. I have applied to five different places: OHSU-Monmouth, University of Portland, Portland Community College, The University of Washington, and Boise State University. I wanted to cover myself and hopefully ensure that I would get in somewhere. I have a really good GPA and experience as an EMT-Basic so I am hoping that that will help my chances.

Just waiting it out until they send out notifications.....I just want to hear back!!! :banghead:

Good luck to everyone who applied!

I got a love it how I am striking out :) This is the reason why I don't play baseball.

Hi all, received my denial letter from OHSU, which makes the 3rd one so far :) Now my only hope is Clackamas. So, will see I guess. Once again, CONGRATS to all those who got accepted to a program and also to those that got on an alternate list :yeah:

I also must say, what bothers me so much is not that I am receiving denial letter after denial letter, it is that who is munching up on my application money??? Just kid, you get my point.

Rachel EMT,

They will know # of alternates after they receive all alternate reservation letters back (the letter gives people until 15th of June to respond).

Yeah that's true...I sent mine in Friday. My letter said that they can't divulge any information about how many alternates there are or what rank on the list I made...so just curious if anyone knew from last year or if people are still going to be calling the admissions office after the deadline to try and find out.

Thanks!!!

RachelEMT---I found out from Ashland's admission's office that last year all their alternates got in!! She emphasized that it varies every year though(I think she didn't really want to get my hopes up too high! :) ) This should kind of give you an idea and put a smile on your face that there is hope yet for us! :) :) :)

Also I have a friend who is at OHSU and she said most of her friends were alternates!!

Purple Rose-

Wow!! That does put a smile on my face! :) I can't believe that all of the alternates got in!! I hope it's the same for Monmouth! I am wondering if a lot of out-of-state people get spots and then decide to go to their in-state school...either way it's good for us alternates I guess. :)

CURIOUS ME...

Thank you so very much for your email. The website wont let me reply to you, it's telling me I have to create more posts before I'm allowed to send private messages  Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to send me such a thoughtful response. Hearing about first hand experience from a current student is a huge help. Thank you very much!

I got my point declaration letter from CCC on Friday, did anyone else? It's nice to know that they are in the process of getting their process rolling! :-)

Tiffinapit,

go to the: Oregon Nursing Programs Discussion - Nursing for Nurses

people have posted their points and thoughts there about CCC

Congratulations Andie, what campus did you get accepted to? I have a letter from UP, the only reason I am waiting for OHSU is because I want the year long clinical, I work EMS in Boise Idaho yesterday I brought a Pt into the ED and the receiving RN was a student from OHSU doing clinicals, at this point i want that extra year, the counter argument is that after you get your job you are still learning and will gain more experience working than in clinicals.

Raybql,

Congrats on your UP acceptance! I'm new to the forum and was reading previous post and you had a question on OHSU GPA preq. calculations...do you remember the preq. coursework form that's part of the application process? On that sheet theirs three rows;row# 1. "Number of credits" & row# 2. "Grade received in points" & row#3 "Points (OHSU use only)," so you take row #1 and multiple by row #2 = OHSU points and than tally all your points in row #3 and #1 than divide row#3/row#1=prerequisite GPA. I hope that's helpful in your decision making to wait or not. :)

I have 66 pts. The max is 70.

For those who are applying to OHSU:

Since I have only used FAid two times in my college career, how people make up for the gap in the amount of loans awarded and additional expenses such as housing, food, transportation, etc.

I called OHSU FinAid few days ago, and tentatively was awarded $10000 for the first school year.

Assuming that OHSU has 3 terms at 15 credits, tuition alone is going to be 12-13K.

How do people reconcile the fact that they have pay for two dwellings (my husband would have to stay in BG, WA), and the fact that they will not be working double shifts (especially while attending intensive OHSU nursing program), making 26K as a CNA at $10/hour ?

I know everyone has different circumstances, but how do people do it?

I have not gotten my CCC letter with my points yet. I'm getting a little worried 'cause I read somewhere on this blog that you are suppose to reply by the 15th of this month? Is there anyone else out there who applied to CCC and have not gotten a letter either? Thanks!
