Hi fellow applicants for 2010!!
I wanted to start a thread for all of us who are applying to various nursing schools in the area for 2010. I have applied to five different places: OHSU-Monmouth, University of Portland, Portland Community College, The University of Washington, and Boise State University. I wanted to cover myself and hopefully ensure that I would get in somewhere. I have a really good GPA and experience as an EMT-Basic so I am hoping that that will help my chances.
Just waiting it out until they send out notifications.....I just want to hear back!!!
Good luck to everyone who applied!
i was wondering... if i agree with the points ccc confirmed with me on the letter, do i need to take any action? can any of you tell me? i would really appreciate a response back! thx!
kurdrn, you'll have to be a little specific about your ccc points conflict... for example did ccc not factor in all your prep. courses, did not add your discretionary points and etc.....??? if that's the case than you should contest if ccc fail to calculate your points properly. :)
For those who are applying to OHSU:Since I have only used FAid two times in my college career, how people make up for the gap in the amount of loans awarded and additional expenses such as housing, food, transportation, etc.
I called OHSU FinAid few days ago, and tentatively was awarded $10000 for the first school year.
Assuming that OHSU has 3 terms at 15 credits, tuition alone is going to be 12-13K.
How do people reconcile the fact that they have pay for two dwellings (my husband would have to stay in BG, WA), and the fact that they will not be working double shifts (especially while attending intensive OHSU nursing program), making 26K as a CNA at $10/hour ?
I know everyone has different circumstances, but how do people do it?
Larisagarrett31, I understand your circumstances. Depending on which nursing school I decide to pick for Fall 2010 I will be coming back as a post baccalaureate regardless, which means no Pell grant or free aid of any kind, since I already have my bachelors degree.
I can't speak for anyone else, but me personally I will take out student/private loans to fulfill the gaps. I believe the sacrifices I make now will pay off later in the long run, because nursing is what I'm passionate about and want to do for the rest of my life. I already worked so hard to get accepted I can't stop halfway through.
Larisagarrett31- depending on the location you want to work as an nurse (i.e. rural)... you might qualify for a loan forgiveness program after you graduate from nursing school. And also look into scholarships. I believe OHSU gives emergency loans as well.
Just FYI here is a closer ballpark of OHSU tuition after crunching some numbers. Tuition each year will range from 14-15k @ $297 per credit and fees (includes health insurance, which is mandatory) per term of $1850.36 already included in the 14-15k (for Ashland campus) these numbers are for individuals that already completed their prerequisite and just taking OHSU credits only which at the most will be 12 credits per term. This is the price you pay for attending a program ranked 7th in the Nation! Aiyaaaah!!!
Thank you for the support,
but money is not the issue, it is where to get them.
Like I said, as a "returning" student (working adult), I am sort of expected to pay the difference out of the non-existing income. If do end up accepted as an alternate, like I said, my income in BG will not be the same as the income of full-time student at Klamath Falls. I have not been there, I don't even know what the job market is like over there.
However, I am going to stop speculating for now, like I said in another post, I am treating my alternate status as a rejection.

zatoichi,
i am sorry if i sounded confusing :). everything is correct. my question is basically, if everything is correct, do i need to take any action? does ccc still want to hear from me? or do i just not do anything? hope this helps! thanks for stepping up to answer my question.

Purple Rose- I received my points from CCC today. So, you might get yours tomorrow. Btw just curious did you ever received an email back in late April from CCC admission stating that they received your application and it's in the process?
