Honey, if you're afraid of poop, nursing is not the field to go into. It can and will happen, when you least expect it.

and it is not just poop that we have to clear up. I don't expect someone to clean something up unless I am willing to clean it up myself although there are times when circumstances dictate otherwise.

I think I am ready for it...I hope....but I fully expect poop pee, vomit,mucus..blood...etc

:barf01::smackingf

Very few nurses do not clean up poop. Although there are some out there who consider that beneath them and say it is "aide" work and don't do it. But let's not turn this into that kind of thread. There have been enough of them!! Now for me, I can not stand vomit et spit. It just grosses me out. But I have still had to deal with it. I just learn to be quick et effecient at cleaning it. :lol2:

me too!!! (i don't mind poo, but when a person is gaggy, i gag right along with them!!)

Not all nurses work in the hospital setting, so no, not all nurses.

Yes, I do agree that not ALL nurses clean poop on a daily basis.

However, I am still waiting for a nurse to come and post that they have NEVER EVER had to clean poop....lol

There are jobs where you won't have to clean up body fluids or do other gross things. But they aren't very common and to get to those jobs you'll have to pay your dues and clean poop, as well as all that other fun stuff.

There will be days that you'll be grateful that it's only poop you're cleaning up.

I'm 'justavolunteer' (on a pt. unit). There have been times when an RN or CNA needs somebody to help turn a pt so they can be cleaned. Sometimes no one else is available, so I end up being the somebody. Even though the staff member does the actual cleaup, I still end up close to some not-so-fun situations. If this can happen to 'justavolunteer', I wouldn't bet on the chances of avoiding it as an RN!
