Anyone who has taken the NCLEX RN after April 1st?

Published

Hello! I'm going to take the NCLEX RN on the 19th. I am really nervous about the test considering things have changed after April 1 on the NCLEX.

For those of you who have taken the NCLEX - RN, what is the exam like? What percentage of questions were select all that apply or the dreaded drag and drop? Where there drug calculation questions?

As for me, I am studying probably 3-8h a day with the saunders question cd, ATI online, and kaplan. Sometimes I read the book, but mostly I'm doing the questions and reading the rationales. I feel discouraged because I feel like I average anywhere from like 65% - 80% correct in my practicing questions. I wanna strive for an 80% and up but I don't always make it there. I know it is impossible to know everything about nursing before going into that exam, but I am so terrified to fail because I have a job lined up and I would lose that opportunity. I mostly get the select all that apply questions wrong in my practice.

How prepared did you all feel before going into the exam? How much percentage of questions did you get correct while practicing?

Good evening, I took the NCLEX on June 7, 2013. It is very challenging but it can be done. I had a lot of select all that apply, medications, and prioritizing. Look at the exam as it is helping you to be a safe nurse when the questions are being asked. Don't read into the question but answer the question with the information that is given. Don't second guess yourself, and read the question to find out what it is asking you to do. You know the information, and now it is time to apply what you have learned in nursing school. I used the Saunders book and an online course that my school offered called prep-u. I answered a lot of questions from Saunders and it was very helpful. Every exam is different so the information will not be the same as others. The test is adaptive so how you respond to the answers will determine your next question. I did pass the NCLEX RN with 78 questions. I took the exam 2 weeks after graduation. Be confident.

I had 98 questions. 8 or 9 SATA. 2 Pictures. I was honestly in a daze the whole time, like in the twilight zone. I remember not feeling like I necessarily failed, but not so confident that I just knew I passed though.

It was no where near as bad as what I had imagined. I passed in the first try. A lot of questions talking about having patient care conference questions and healthcare provider conference questions. I had priority, but hardly any of the, who would you see first, more like what referrals/suggestions would you make first or something like that. It was really a weird test to be honest.

It doable. I tested May 20th 2013. Found out I passed and my name was on the NC BON on May 22nd.

I took my NCLEX RN just a few days ago on the 6th and now have my license number from my BON :) I felt like it was hard but not as crazy hard as I expected. I had 82 questions total and out of those I had around 8 select all that apply 1 drag and drop, and then I had 2 multiple choice questions that had exhibits (a button you pushed on and extra information with like 3 tabs you could look at), and 1 question that had a picture. I was sooo irritated that I didn't get any math questions because (like you) I felt that they would be my saving grace. In my opinion, NCLEX is EXTREMELY similar to Kaplan (even in the way it looks). I saw questions on NCLEX that I'm sure I had in Kaplan question trainers and qbank. As for studying, my school required us to have Kaplan access throughout the program so when it was time to study I mainly utilized the qbank, and question trainers from that and read the Kaplan book for content I was unfamiliar with. If you are scoring above 60% on all your Kaplan stuff then you are doing great :) I was only doing 60-65% and I felt prepared.[/quote']

I am using the Kaplan book right now but so you think it's a good idea to get the qbank as well?

i took it june 3rd. i thought it was pretty hard. i had 75 questions total and passed. i had 20-30 SATA 1 math problem, 1 ECG strip. i used hurst review and PDA by lacharity mostly.. those 2 helped me tremendously![/quote']

Hi congratulation! do you think that the Hurst's practice questions were similar to NCLEX? I did hurst review and have finished from the videos, but I haven't started with the questions yet.

I took it June 1 and mine was about 40% SATA - the other 60% was 55% multiple choice with 2 EKG questions and one where I had to pick the proper position for a procedure - I had NO math, NO drag and drop, NO audio, NO video, NO hotspot, and NO extended questions....I did ATI exclusively, about 1-2 hours a day...

Nursing school teaches you the content, ATI/Kaplan etc teaches you the mindset and they just need to be married together...

I took it in 1 hour - 75 questions and I passed....

Did you use anything to study for the SATA's?

If not, any recommendations on how to tackle them?

I took it today at 2, wasn't as hard as ATI, in my opinion it compared to Kaplan Prep and Saunders. I got A LOT of teaching and "who would the RN see first". I can honestly say the most confident I felt on any answer choice I made was about 80%. I obviously don't have me results yet but I got the good pop up when trying the pvt. As far as studying goes I used Saunders 99% of thr time and ATI the rest. I felt discouraged because my scores were in the 60's for Saunders, ATI and the one time I did Kaplan Prep (q bank or predictor I think, the free one ). NCLEX is challenging for sure but it's not as bad as its often made out to be (in my opinion anyway). We'll see what my results are tomorrow though !

If you haven't paid for Kaplan I wouldn't stress about it, the only reason I thought Kaplan and NCLEX compared was because Kaplan had a lot of "who would the nurse see next" questions...if you have Saunders or access to ATI I suggest doing those types of questions as a study tool, like I said, I thought ATI was harder than NCLEX, so if you do well on ATI I'm sure you'll rock NCLEX

An instructor at my school said they were really beefing up the pharmacology this time around. Has anyone found that to be true?

They actually decreased Pharm by 1% but its still a major part of the test
