Pursued by another hospital
Hi all ! I need advice: I'm a new grad and was fortunate enough to get the job I wanted when I graduated: Peds Psych. The downfall was that its a part time position but i needed a job and I accepted ( I have been able to pick up plenty of shifts so I have worked full time hours since I started). The hospital where I preceptored was the first place I looked at when I graduated but their unit never has openings as turnover is very low. Come to find out just as I started my part time job, that 2 full time openings came up on that unit. Here's how it went down( i will refer to my current employer as hospital "b", just because that is my second, but primary place of work) : I preceptored on Peds psych at hospital "a" and I am also employed there PRN as a tech on an addictions unit My manager at hospital "a" told the Peds psych unit director at hospital "a" about me and the director immediately requested that I call her and set up a time to meet. I did but with my new job at " b" my hours were very limited. The director at "a" kept contacting me asking to meet up so we finally found a mutual day that worked for us and we finally met. She told me more about the unit, the work, the children's activities, safety, ect and its basically an excellent facility with more activities and room than where I work at now. What I am struggling with is that I don't have a reason to leave hospital "b" I like the people I work with, and although I'm part time, I've been able to pick up plenty of extra hours. And I was promised a full time job when we had an opening ( when will that happen ? I don't know) so my question is, what would be your deciding factors in deciding whether to leave or stay ? As I said, I like my current job, I just don't know if I should wait for that full time spot to open. Thanks guys and Sorry for the novel !!!!!

First code the day before my 1 year amd can't stop thinking about it.
This happened to me while I was a student. I was giving my pt a bed bath, he was talking, then snoring...I untied his gown at the neck and he was fine. I left the room briefly ( literally less than 1 min) to get more washcloths and next thing I know a bunch of nurses run in after me asking me what was wrong, I look up and he's blue. My heart dropped....I felt like it my fault and I should have known something as wrong. He was my responsibility and he coded. Luckily he lived, the reason I didn't know something was happening was because as students, we don't carry Voceras (communication devices) so the monitor room got a hold of my nurse who was clear at the other end of the hallway and there aren't monitors in the room... I felt horrible. I literally just stood back and cried. To this day, I am convinced that is why I never got a call back from that hospital when applied for jobs. I work there now as a mental health nurse (what I wanted to practice anyway) but I never got a call back from the med surg floors I applied at. There s a rumor at my school that the clinical instructors kept files of students so I am sure that if it does exist, that day is in big bold letters.

NCLEX is NOT hard
100% agree... Nursing school tests, ATI and even Saunders were all much harder

ATT 2013
I'm in Iowa and the time between when I graduated and actually got my ATT was a little over one month. Luckily my BON was cooperative with me when I started calling them. Their website states to call if its been more than 3 weeks since you applied. Since i had applied longer than that time frame they were very helpful in getting things processed ASAP. Fortunately , my prospective employer was very understanding. Good luck !

Saunders for nclex..plz clarify...
I used Saunders and I found out today I passed NCLEX, Saunders is a great review but I honestly found NCLEX to be easier as far as the way questions were presented. Good luck !
