  1. Thanks ladies ! I am still on probationary period ( I'm off of that in December) overall, I make slightly more at my current job but I did not sign up for benefits ( I totally missed the sign up date ! ) luckily I have other health insurance :)
  2. Hi all ! I need advice: I'm a new grad and was fortunate enough to get the job I wanted when I graduated: Peds Psych. The downfall was that its a part time position but i needed a job and I accepted ( I have been able to pick up plenty of shifts so I have worked full time hours since I started). The hospital where I preceptored was the first place I looked at when I graduated but their unit never has openings as turnover is very low. Come to find out just as I started my part time job, that 2 full time openings came up on that unit. Here's how it went down( i will refer to my current employer as hospital "b", just because that is my second, but primary place of work) : I preceptored on Peds psych at hospital "a" and I am also employed there PRN as a tech on an addictions unit My manager at hospital "a" told the Peds psych unit director at hospital "a" about me and the director immediately requested that I call her and set up a time to meet. I did but with my new job at " b" my hours were very limited. The director at "a" kept contacting me asking to meet up so we finally found a mutual day that worked for us and we finally met. She told me more about the unit, the work, the children's activities, safety, ect and its basically an excellent facility with more activities and room than where I work at now. What I am struggling with is that I don't have a reason to leave hospital "b" I like the people I work with, and although I'm part time, I've been able to pick up plenty of extra hours. And I was promised a full time job when we had an opening ( when will that happen ? I don't know) so my question is, what would be your deciding factors in deciding whether to leave or stay ? As I said, I like my current job, I just don't know if I should wait for that full time spot to open. Thanks guys and Sorry for the novel !!!!!
  3. This happened to me while I was a student. I was giving my pt a bed bath, he was talking, then snoring...I untied his gown at the neck and he was fine. I left the room briefly ( literally less than 1 min) to get more washcloths and next thing I know a bunch of nurses run in after me asking me what was wrong, I look up and he's blue. My heart dropped....I felt like it my fault and I should have known something as wrong. He was my responsibility and he coded. Luckily he lived, the reason I didn't know something was happening was because as students, we don't carry Voceras (communication devices) so the monitor room got a hold of my nurse who was clear at the other end of the hallway and there aren't monitors in the room... I felt horrible. I literally just stood back and cried. To this day, I am convinced that is why I never got a call back from that hospital when applied for jobs. I work there now as a mental health nurse (what I wanted to practice anyway) but I never got a call back from the med surg floors I applied at. There s a rumor at my school that the clinical instructors kept files of students so I am sure that if it does exist, that day is in big bold letters.
  4. 100% agree... Nursing school tests, ATI and even Saunders were all much harder
  5. Best of luck to you !
  6. I'm in Iowa and the time between when I graduated and actually got my ATT was a little over one month. Luckily my BON was cooperative with me when I started calling them. Their website states to call if its been more than 3 weeks since you applied. Since i had applied longer than that time frame they were very helpful in getting things processed ASAP. Fortunately , my prospective employer was very understanding. Good luck !
  7. Worked for me too. Tested on Monday and found out yesterday for sure that I passed
  8. No problem ! Good luck !
  9. I would miss about 3 questions minimum on the end of chapter quizzes, the most I missed were 7. I got about a 60 on the comprehensive one on the CD
  10. I used Saunders and I found out today I passed NCLEX, Saunders is a great review but I honestly found NCLEX to be easier as far as the way questions were presented. Good luck !
  11. Worked for me! Tested on the 10th, tried pvt less than an hour after and I got the good pop up all every time I tried it up until my unofficial results today !
  12. I graduated April 27 and didn't my ATT until a month later. I'm in Iowa and I know that my BON has been very busy processing all of the applications coming in after other nursing schools graduated after we did. Hopefully you hear something soon !
  13. Worked for me too ! Found out I passed NCLEX-RN today !
  14. I think it's best to do the trick continusly until you get your unofficial results. I find mine out at 2pm, so far I've had the good pop up. I started checking a little less Han an hour after my test and every 2hrs the rest of the evening (lol)
  15. I took it yesterday at 2,, wasn't as hard as ATI, in my opinion it compared to Kaplan Prep and Saunders. I got A LOT of teaching and "who would the RN see first". I can honestly say the most confident I felt on any answer choice I made was about 80%. I obviously don't have me results yet but I got the good pop up when trying the pvt. As far as studying goes I used Saunders 99% of thr time and ATI the rest. I felt discouraged because my scores were in the 60's for Saunders, ATI and the one time I did Kaplan Prep (q bank or predictor I think, the free one ). NCLEX is challenging for sure but it's not as bad as its often made out to be (in my opinion anyway). We'll see what my results are tomorrow though !
  16. If you haven't paid for Kaplan I wouldn't stress about it, the only reason I thought Kaplan and NCLEX compared was because Kaplan had a lot of "who would the nurse see next" questions...if you have Saunders or access to ATI I suggest doing those types of questions as a study tool, like I said, I thought ATI was harder than NCLEX, so if you do well on ATI I'm sure you'll rock NCLEX

  18. We were told very clearly that absolutely NO cell phone usage is allowed... It results in automatic failure. Rules are also clearly written on the NCLEX website
  19. Does your school offer counseling ? Do you have a place of worship ? Someone you can talk to or trust ? Maybe a family member or someone you could move in with while you think things through ? I get the whole cultural aspect and it may sound harsh, but its YOUR life, take control. If you don't know how, counseling or therapy may help. Good luck and do what you love regardless of who it upsets.
  20. Don't even get me started.... I will NEVER file with HR Block again. My advice: call the IRS directly with questions. I was told by HRB that since I had student credits that it an internal glitch with the IRS happened and that I would be getting a letter from them asking me to send them some documents (mind you this was one month after I filed and was promised a two week return) .you better believed called the IRS and guess what they said "no such thing"
  21. Also, do some self soul searching and be honest with yourself. I withdrew from a semester because there was no way I was going to pass and although it sucked to admit that I recognized it as the truth, I was also having money issues and I couldn't afford to not work. I ended up withdrawing from the semester, sulking for a few days because I was a week from finishing and moving onto my final semester, then I worked as much as I could and took a much needed break to recharge and go back to school 110% ready...I do agree with the first person who commented also, based on your post, I also think it sounds like you don't have the time to give to nursing school... Nursing school is intense and requires serious commitment and dedication and if that's something you can't commit to 100% then I would honestly consider withdrawing.
  22. I would suggest using ABC's and Maslows Hierarchy when answering a question. DO NOT read into the question, don't think " we'll what if ....." when you're reading the question. It takes time to learn to think critically and like a nurse but its definitely do-able.
  23. Grntea- blogging is my form of stress relief. Thank you for your opinion though, have a wonderful evening
