what's the general concensus on nose rings as a nurse?
just wondering....random topic

I've worked previously in facilities where nose rings (or any facial piercing) needed to be either removed or covered with a small bandage. But it seems like they are becoming more mainstream now. At a facility where I occasionally work per diem, the ADON has a small diamond nose ring.

I don't have one and have never worked with a nurse who had one either.

I think it depends on the facility. LTC they may not be as picky but a lot of hospital settings are even making changes as to whether their employees can wear their rings, or necklaces. Which i dont agree with but personally with all the MRSA that is being cultured from peoples noses, i dont think id want one period let alone wear a nose ring to work.

IMO it's not professional but to each his own. It wouldn't stop me from treating them any differently.

Just IMO, it's not professional looking to have facial piercings while nursing. It's a big No-no in our unit. Even ear-rings are not a good look while nursing. Btw, I am not anti piercing/tattoo...mines are just mostly all hidden from view! Apart from the ear piercing which I take out for work.
Conservative stud earrings are perfectly acceptable IMO.

I know at my hospital, they are a no no. You can't wear anything but 1 pair of ear rings in your ear, at the bottom of the lobe and preferably a small stud, and a wedding band. No other rings, no other ear rings in the ears, definitely not any showing anywhere else, and no tatoos showing. Which will be a problem for me because I have a cross on my finger. How do I cover that one up, if I can't wear a ring over it?!?
