I'm just curious! I'm just starting (at the ripe 'ol age of 35, LOL!) looking into a career in nursing. I've worked in hospitals and clinics doing medical transcription for years and years, and way back when used to be a pre-physical therapy major (I've taken chemistry, anatomy, biology...don't know if they would count, as it's been several years). I would be attending MJC for pre-reqs and (fiingers crossed) the nursing program eventually and I would really love to have a student's view, how difficult it is to get into the program, any general advice, etc.
Yes, lets keep in touch! I am so excited to start and can't wait for that packet either! So i need your help you guys, for financial aid I really hope I can get some help ... like I read that modesto doesnt really use loans but I might need to take some if I don't get enough to substitute for lack of hours during the nursing program. Of course I have already filled out the fafsa and modesto has received it, but what can I do now since we are not starting until January? any advice?
Please let me know, it would really calm down my anxiety! haha :)

ElBee I agree we should all keep in touch! I will send you a private message with my e-mail address!!!!
katie_kins007 I looked on pirates.net to see what other papers I needed to turn in. Some can be submitted online. When I was there yesterday the girl told me they have a loan program for nursing students. I will definitely be taking some of those out so my poor husband doesn't have to work 24/7 and so I can afford the books I would recommend doing it all now she also told me it takes 2 to 3 months to process. Just in time for us to start school!!!! YAYAYAYAY!!!!
Ok, thank you! that helps to know that there is a loan for nursing students. Do you know how much the range is, by chance? I mean anything will help, but it would be nice to be more than just a couple hundred dollars. To get the process started do I have to go in and tell them what I want/need or just turn in the forms they say they still need on pirates.net?
ElBee I just talked to the girls at the desk. Sorry no one in particular!
katie_kins007 I don't know the range for the loans sorry. I should have figured that out I need to know also. I would suggest you check you're pirates/net first then go in and talk to them. I live far far away so I brought my taxes just in case and they did wind up wanting a few copies! If you find out more about the loans please share the info.
Ok, I live pretty far away too! Where are you at? I am from Lodi. I checked my piratesnet and its frustrating because I am still considered dependent when I am not supported at all by my parents and my mom still hasnt completed her 2009 tax returns and so im considered incomplete. Everytime I ask her about filing she gets all mad and I could honestly see her not even filing, she's crazy! I should probably go in and take my taxes too. Thanks again for your help, ill get you updated!
Hi CdG, I made it into the Columbia satellite on my second try. The main MJC class is harder to get into. I start in January. Anyone out there who will be in the Spring 2011 class? I'm just trying to figure out everything because they don't even give us information until November. Has anyone used the MJC clinic for titers and immunizations? I'm wondering about the experience with it as well as with the program? How about books. Are you buying to books package or just getting them online? I'm looking at the required and optional books for the first semester. The Med-surg clinical companion looks useful, but I'm not sure the test-taking book is worth buying. Any advice from MJC students would be appreciated.

I can't believe it's finally here (after four years of waiting)! I am so excited for all of us. It's a bit comforting to know the three of you will be at orientation too. Please let me know if you would like to exchange email addresses. I'm not sure if we are able to do that on here privately. I can't send a visitor message yet because I don't have the required 15 postings. January will be here before we know it! Then the REAL stress beings! I will be anxiously awaiting my packet in November. Hope to keep in touch with all of you!
