Just curious if anyone ever tried working 60 hours or close a week. If so how was it?

Exhausting. How'd you think it'd be?

exhausting... by hour 60 my nerves are frayed... i don't do that anymore...

Specializes in Rural Health.

Between my 2 jobs, I work about 50-60 hours per week.

It's tough but right now in my life, it's not an option, I have to work both jobs. I wish I didn't but the pay for RN's in my area is insanely low and the bills are insanely high (and no, we can't move to another area). So life dealt me these cards....I am applying every ounce of extra $$$$ to debt......and we are making HUGE headway.

I just keep thinking.....just 1 more year left and then I can go back to 36 hours per week and it will feel like a vacation!!!!

The key for me is not to work more than 3 in a row w/o a day off.......I (by accident) ended up with 5 in a row just a couple weeks ago and it almost killed me off.....

Specializes in Pediatrics Only.

I think the max I've done was 50 doing Nurse Coordinator for a pediatric private duty nursing company. I wasnt bothered by this at all - it was 10 hours a day M-F.

For hospital my max was 48 hours - thats 4 12's in a row. I was dead after that and swear never to do it again.

But 60 hours..hmm..

Maybe if it was 12 hour shifts on S/M, W/Th, S - I could do it- but only for one week!!!

Specializes in home health, peds, case management.

i worked 12mn-12n for about a month in private duty due to some staffing problems.

i'd tell you how it was....but i honestly don't remember anything that happened during that month!!!!!!

be very careful.....

I work 60 hours every week...that is my choice and it is no problem at all.

WOW every week? you must be making $100,000 over anually right?

Specializes in Geriatrics, Cardiac, ICU.

I was a CNA when I did this, but I worked 72 hours a week by doing home health M-F and then two 16's on Sat and Sun.

I did that for six months and stopped to go back to school. It wasn't bad at all.

I did, early on in my career. We were so short that I covered a lot of sick calls so would do a lot of 12's (at that time we only scheduled 8's). I couldn't do that now, but then I was young and energetic!

I want to work that many hours but the agency said I could not..It is because of overtime and stuff like that..

Maybe I should find a second job..
