I just looked at my school's web site for a preview of the Spring 2004 classes to get a general idea of what times A&P 1 would be offered and all but 1 of the A&P is accelerated meaning that the 1st half of the semester is A&P 1 and the 2nd half of the semester is A&P 2. Has anyone ever taken A&P like that and did it kill you? I MUST get an A in A&P 1 to get into my ADN program (600+ applicants for 110 spots) and I was planning on taking JUST A&P 1 next semester since I will be working full time so that I can be sure I will have able time to get an A. Please share your experiences if you have taken A&P like this.
Thank you,
Amy
I did not take A&P accelerated but I did take Chem and another class over the summer (8 weeks and made A's in both classes) and I didn't find it any harder than take a full load during the regular symester.
If I were you I would not take any other classes with A&P because you are working and its a fast class but I think you can do it- just prepared to work for your grade though, none of it is easy.
The main thing is to not let yourself get behind! If you can stay caught up with it all (and its not hard to if you just put in the time) you will do fine. Get a wall calander and write when all your tests, quizzes, projects, etc are all due so you can "see" it at a glance. I also have a organizer that I carry around with me that has more detaled notes in it.

Originally posted by amyindallasYES!!!! I'm going to Northlake!!! I'm thinkning about playing it safe too..but it would be nice to get both classes under my belt. I just looked at the preview schedule online and unless they change it, they aren't offering A&P at night. Words of advise: If you must take A&P at night DO NOT TAKE IT AT BROOKHAVEN. The nursing adviser at Brookhaven specifically told me DO NOT take A&P 1, 2, or Micro at Brookhaven because they make it alot harder than it has to be. You know that's bad when the nursing adviser tells you this. Did you also know that Brookhaven will be offering a stand alone nursing program separate from El Centro? 1 of the advisers told me that since that is happening that North Lake will offer the ASN program with El Centro like Brookhaven use to. I have taken Science classes at both Northlake and Brookhaven and it's a world of difference in the instruction that you receive. Good luck.

You're right - no A&P at night at Northlake. I guess my only choice is Brookhave, even with your warning. That's if the classes don't fill up. Don't know what I'll do if that happens.... just take it in the fall of '04.
I know what you mean LauraLou....I have not taken any of those instructors but the adviser (Trisha - RN) told me outright DO NOT TAKE A&P 1, A&P 2, or Microbiology as Brookhaven.....she said they make it so much harder than it has to be. I had Gill-King for Bio 1406 and over half of the class of 100+ people, including me, ended up dropping his class because he was just an AWFUL instructor. I just found out that they have many more A&P 1 classes in the Fall and more A&P 2 classes in the Spring...so I am waiting until Fall 2004 to take it at Northlake where I know I can get an A.
Yes, and VERY intense. I would tape my lectures, and my notes. Then I would listen to these tapes while doing anything else that was not studying. I also listened to them before I slept hoping that some of it would absorb into my subconscious mind. I passed, you can to, but it takes alot of dedication. Good luck.
I am taking A+P at Brookhaven and it isn't so bad. I have NO science in my background so it is a lot of studying - more than if I did have science in my background. The difficulty level is going to depend on your current knowledge level.
I made an A on the first test and the first practical is coming up this week. I attend tutoring twice a week with Mimi McBrine - she is awesome and FREE through the EXCEL office. She was a high school teacher for A+P and really explains it much better than the instructors do. I still study between 15-20 hours a week, and keep up with two other classes. Just adopt good habits early on and it should be okay.
A hint - you may want to try learning Latin/Greek prefixes/suffixes/roots before starting A+P. It will make memorizing everything a little easier.
In case you are wondering, SCIT 1407 and SCIT 1408 WILL transfer to UT Arlington. I believe TWU accepts the courses as well (if you're going for a BSN) but you might want to check - it may have changed.

I'd like to know where you are getting A's with 90.1%! LOL I need a 96% to get an A, 91-95 is an AB. I am taking the full course and it really does kick your butt. As everyone is saying, you need to study every single day. I have my first lab exam tonight as a matter of fact. I hope I can keep all of my origins, insertions and actions of the muscles straight!!

I took A&P I & II in the same semester - same setup you mentioned, I first half of the semester, then II second half of the semester. (I also work 40 hours a week nad have 2 kids)
The class met two nights a week, one night with lecture (4 hours) then a 4-hour lab the other day. It was stressful, especially considering the school was a 60-mile-one-way commute. But well worth it...
I didn't find the class too incredibly difficult - the material was fascinating and in a way just made enough sense to me that it was easy to learn.
