Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying for the CCRN exam and would like to start a thread as perhaps a study and support group? I have just applied for the exam and have not yet set a date, but about in 3 months is when I will be taking it. I would love to be in communication with others in the same boat! I hope there is at least one other nurse out there! Thanks!

Sooo...

I just got done reading this entire thread from beginning to end, and I am so excited to really start studying for CCRN! I have been toying with taking it for about three years now. I think I'll really start studying today.

It is so nice to see people who can be so supportive of each other. It is really motivating.

Thanks for starting and continuing this thread!

Burnt2, what did you find out about the med school or CRNA interviews?

I am a PICU nurse and have been there for about 4 years. I am yet undecided about the timing of the test--there is a lot of stuff on the test that we NEVER see in the PICU. I want to take it mostly so that I am forced to learn the stuff that we don't see. Secret aspirations to CRNA...

I too am a Minnesota gal! Pretty cool!

I used Dr. Laura's DVD's--love, love, love them! and the older edition (2nd) of Pass CCRN, just for the questions. I hear that the new edition of Pass CCRN has many more questions. I have 1.5 yrs experience in a busy SICU, and wanted to prove to myself I could do it. I bought my review books when I started working there and studied a little here and there, then hit the books hard a few weeks ago. Since I started working there, I learned that it can help my chances of getting in to CRNA school, too, so that's a bonus. There's a group of my co-workers who went to a 2-day review in October (not Dr. Laura) and are planning to take the exam in March. But I like challenges and didn't want to wait that long.

Hi everyone, grerat thread. I work in a busy mixed ICU in CA, i am heart and balloon trained. So a lot of the cardio stuff i can relate too, i have my orificenal as below:

1. DR Laura Vonfrolio's 6DVD set (great)

2. Her exam review questions

3. AACN review DVD and questions

I was trying to take it this year, but my work schedule is crazy.... i need to buckle up, and just do it...ahhhhhhh...well see..but u guys are an iinspiration....

HI Godsgem!

Thank you for the kind words. You have all the right material and with your experience you will have no trouble passing the test. The Dennison CD of questions is also very helpful, but you can certainly pass without it. The Cardiac part of the test is the biggest and the most detailed (IMHO), so with that as your specialty you will do great.

Welcome to our group! We will support you in any way that we can.

Hi Dawn,

I have spent the last two days reading through all the postings in the thread. I felt very inspired and motivated in taking the CCRN exam.

Thank you so much for keeping this thread alive to provide a place for us to communicate and support each other.

I started as a new grad in MICU in June 2005. I had wanted to take the CCRN exam for a long time and had been postponing the exam since June when I found out I was pregnant w/our first child. I finally registered for the exam and just got my authorization to test letter two days ago. I have up until 02/05/08 to take the test, however, I would really want to get it out of my way before the end of 2007.

I have been studying on and off for about 1 month now. I've got the Pass CCRN book (2nd ed.) & CD (boy, I had so much problem w/that CD), the AACN 2005 Adult CCRN Review Course book & DVDs. I also ordered Dr. Laura Gasparis Vonfroli's review book. I didn't order the DVD course from Dr. Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio because I wasn't sure if I would have enough time to go through all the material.

How long did you spend preparing for the exam? When you had problem with the Pass CCRN CD, what did you do to make it work? I'm so frustrated with it. :angryfire I just finished cardio section, but I'm not doing too well on the quiz, getting around 50%.:uhoh21:

What advice can you give me to help me get ready? I'm scared to schedule the exam in Decemeber. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Hey don't feel bad about those initial low scores! We all did that at first. I had trouble with the second edition of Dennison's CD as well, I would highly recommend getting the third edition, because that CD works, and it has over 1000 questions. (and it is amazing how directly it correlates to the actually scores we got on the actual CCRN exam) Also, I would highly recommend the Gasparis DVD course. I have people really inspired by her course where I work, she is just someone you should not miss experiencing in this lifetime, as a nurse. I know you would have no problem selling it afterward on ebay, if you decide you can part with it afterward. But, there are people on this thread who passed without it, so it is entirely up to you.

I spent 2 months studying and I focused on Dr Laura and the Dennison material. I also had David Woodruff's course which I soon abandoned after getting Dr Laura's material. The truth is there is not THAT much to memorize. I really think that an experienced ICU nurse could spend a short time studying and pass the test. Personally, I didn't feel the test was hard to pass, but there were a few killer questions that were there to make the test seem harder than it was, if you ask me! I would not worry about scheduling yet. I would try to study as relaxed as you can, so that you retain it differently than nursing school or another course. It really is about validating what you already know and retaining the info forever. Let yourself have fun with it. Don't stress out, it isn't about that.

I am so glad that you let us know you are studying there are few others that have recently posted who are studying now, as well, perhaps they will see your post and let us know how they are doing.
