Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying for the CCRN exam and would like to start a thread as perhaps a study and support group? I have just applied for the exam and have not yet set a date, but about in 3 months is when I will be taking it. I would love to be in communication with others in the same boat! I hope there is at least one other nurse out there! Thanks!

What an awesome group of nurses you all are! I feel sooo privileged to know all of you through this little thread. I am blown away by ALL of our passes! Isn't that the coolest? I feel that I have these little connections with people across the country, that if I ever saw in person, would never know it was one of you, yet I feel I know you deeply. I hope as we pass this CCRN exam, and move on, that we maintain a connection once in a while, by sharing interesting cases, to share the victories and struggles in our careers and in our lives. I also hope that as other nurses read these posts would become inspired and join the thread. We have together found a great system for not only passing the CCRN exam, but in empowering ourselves as nurses.
You folks are the very best!!! :icon_hug::icon_hug::icon_hug:

:lol2: here we are with our CCRNs!!!!!
YEA for 100% pass rate!!!I think a lot of it had to do with the support here!! :)
As for using your credentials, are you signing your name with it on all your charting? Only about 7 nurses on unit are CCRN certified, and I don't believe any of them sign their name with it...so I don't know what to do. I know I should, but... We don't have the greatest support for it on our unit. What are you guys doing?
My unit has been really supportive and proud (to my face at least..we know how that goes). I worked REALLY hard to have those four letters behind my name so mine is on my name badge and I don't sign it every time I sign a note, but I sign my flow sheet with CCRN. It has motivated some of the nurses on my unit to at least look at the material. And I also think it showed them that it was not an easy test to pass and that I did have to work hard. The other nurses that are CCRNn's in my unit have all been nurses for 20+ years. But, there are also lots of nurses without CCRN behind their name that are MUCH better nurses than I am:uhoh3:. I have been kind of low key about it, but some of my coworkers (including my boss) have been very supportive and encouraging and insist on pointing it out to every person they see.
But, I am signing my name, RN, CCRN....and hopefully soon RN, CCRN, CSC....I know I will only put that on the flow sheet....

I feel the same way, that there are so many nurses, who don't have the CCRN that are MUCH better nurses than me as well!! I have to keep reminding myself that it doesn't mean that I know more than anyone else, but that I have a commitment to be the best nurse that I can be by improving my competence and my knowledge....
The CSC sounds like a very empowering area to study as well!! Very cool...hey keep posting here with how it is going and when you are testing, OK???
Thanks so much for this thread! I have just spent the past hours (!) reading all the posts. Based on your recommendations, I just ordered the Gasparis DVDs, her little book, and the Dennison book, for the CD with test questions. My CCU is based on Patricia Benner's novice to expert theory, and offers classes based on your level of expertise. I am almost finished with our level 4 classes, which are meant to be a start toward CCRN preparation. My classmates want to start a study group, so I will offer to get together with them and watch the DVDs. The teachers of these classes (at my hospital) have spoken nationally and have published a book which is a prep for the newer cardiac medicine certification. They will be available for tutoring/study help.
Thanks also for the continued postings from those who have passed the CCRN test. Your insights are invaluable, not to mention encouraging! My sister is also an RN and is certified in hospice and oncology. Of the few times I have seen her cry, two were after she took these tests. She felt they were the hardest tests she had ever taken. It's good re-inforcement to know you generally don't walk away from these tests feeling like you passed. No matter what the outcome of the test, the knowledge gained will improve patient outcomes! And that's what nursing is all about!
Thanks again! I will keep you posted about my test date!

YAYYYYY!!! I am SO glad that you found us!! Please keep us informed on how it is going for you...and your study group. We love to hear about interesting cases... I would like to keep this thread going non-stop into the future, to encourage and to support others to pursue the CCRN...so this thread is not going to disappear!
:groupwelcome: all of us happy CCRN certified RNs!!
:lol2:
;)
Welcome!!!
Hey guys, have been busy at work this weekend!
I now have CCRN behind my name for our computer charting, but for when I actually hand-sign my name on my strips or something (we don't hand sign much, we have mostly computer charting), I haven't been signing CCRN.
People have also been very supportive, and I have noticed people are now encouraged to take the test. Until I passed, the 7 who have it on our unit have 20 or so years experience like on CVICURN's unit. So I think people might now be thinking...hey, I CAN do this!
Gotta get back to work, very very busy day :) And welcome msn2008!
Hi All,
I haven't read any of the posts on this thread for 3 weeks or so...........so was very happy to read all of the notes from those who recently achieved their CCRN.
Congratulations! :balloons:
As for signing or not signing CCRN after your name............it's a personal choice, but as others have noted when you do share with others that you have passed, it does help to promote a culture of certification on the unit. Others who might not have sought out the certification on their own start to get curious about it. You can now act as inspiration and a confidence booster to others.
CCRN is not about being a better nurse than others..........but the process of discovery and study that you go through to get it really does make you a better nurse...........and that leads to better patient outcomes...........which is a great thing for everyone.
DeeDawnTee............thanks for all that you are doing to assist others in achieving their goals.
As for me.............I'm deciding between studying up for my CMC and CSC. Anyone have any experience or suggestions for studying for either exam?

I'm the only one in my unit that has it...i'm not sure i'm even going to put it on my badge
I'm concerned that if i use/display the ccrn it will come across as "i'm better than you", and that i'll be under higher scrutiny as a CCRN, and my mistakes will be magnified
it's purely academic - there was no financial gain from this other than being reimbursed after i passed the test, part of my feeling is that they're not paying me to put it on my badge, so i'm not going to...
if I say here and do an FNP program instead of doing med school i'm planning to start doing care flight - i'll wear the CCRN then.
