Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying for the CCRN exam and would like to start a thread as perhaps a study and support group? I have just applied for the exam and have not yet set a date, but about in 3 months is when I will be taking it. I would love to be in communication with others in the same boat! I hope there is at least one other nurse out there! Thanks!

Hi All,

I haven't read any of the posts on this thread for 3 weeks or so...........so was very happy to read all of the notes from those who recently achieved their CCRN.

Congratulations! :balloons:

As for signing or not signing CCRN after your name............it's a personal choice, but as others have noted when you do share with others that you have passed, it does help to promote a culture of certification on the unit. Others who might not have sought out the certification on their own start to get curious about it. You can now act as inspiration and a confidence booster to others.

CCRN is not about being a better nurse than others..........but the process of discovery and study that you go through to get it really does make you a better nurse...........and that leads to better patient outcomes...........which is a great thing for everyone.

DeeDawnTee............thanks for all that you are doing to assist others in achieving their goals.

As for me.............I'm deciding between studying up for my CMC and CSC. Anyone have any experience or suggestions for studying for either exam?

Thank you so much for your kind words!!

As for me, I know little about the CMC or CSC certificates. What do you all think about expanding this thread to include other certifications?? Do you think it would get too confusing? I would love to include CMC, CSC and CNRN...but I don't know if it would be too much and actually drive people away?? Any feedback?? There certainly are similarities in getting and staying motivated and dealing with (some) coworkers... and much of the case studies would be interesting to all of us....And the common thread really is our commitment to becoming better nurses and empowering our practices... what do you all think?? I could change the title of the thread I believe, certainly with a moderators help....

I don't know, I also don't want to mess with something that is working so well....opinions please??

As for me, don't think I'll get any other certifications at this time, since I'm in the MICU so the cardiac specific certifications seem kind of pointless at this time. But you guys should go for it!!

Has anyone worked with a patient on an oscillator vent? And I'm talking in the adult world now, not peds or NICU, cuz I know they are used more often in that world. We have a patient on our unit that we put on the oscillator today, and it has me very intrigued. I have spent a lot of time in that room asking the RT's all kinds of questions. We don't see them barely at all! Just thought I would throw that question out there to get our thread jump started again, has been quiet past few days (ok only 2 days, but oh well!) ;)

Hello to everybody. I've been reading all your threads and I'm happy for all of you who have passed the CCRN exam . For this, I am encouraged to study for it too. You've mentioned the Dennison CD and the Gasparis DVD are all good. Which edition did you buy?? is it the 2007 ed. Pls let me know. I am planning to buy my review materials this week but not sure what to start with.

Dennison CD + Gasparis vids = all you need

Although...I used her Critical care book too

pacep.org really helped out on the hemodynamic stuff

I watched a little bit of the first Gasparis dvd on Sunday night. I enjoyed it! She is funny and reminds me of my critical care professor. I can't wait to watch more!

Hi!! So glad you found us!! If you go to Amazon.com to order the Dennison book, it should be the third edition, as that CD with questions has over twice the questions as her earlier editions. And go to Greatnurses.com to order the Dr Laura course. And yes her Critical Care Review Book of questions and rationales are extremely helpful as well.

I hope you hang out with us as you are studying and going through this!

OK phew I took the test today... AND PASSED!!!!!!!!!!

I couldn't believe I passed it - kept reading the paper over and over and over!

I used Gasparis, Woodruff (though didn't like it as much honestly - failed his challenge exam twice!) and also the AACN NIT review course, which I thought was excellent (audio CDs). I had the Dennison book but LOST the CD - I'm sure I'll find it now that I'm done LOL!

At any rate, I'm going to enjoy this weekend of NOT having to study!!!

Love ya all and keep up the great work!

Hello!

I am so glad that you found this thread and I am planning on keeping this thread going into the future. I know there are several other nurses in the process of studying this fall and winter. I watch this thread daily and will support you anyway you need.

I'm sure that most of the recent CCRNers will respond to questions you have as well!

I can't wait to see Dr Laura in person some time in the future! I have loaned out my DVD course to someone who just passed as well. She is my nursing hero!!

I wonder if she ever reads Allnurses??!! :lol2::lol2::lol2:
