Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying for the CCRN exam and would like to start a thread as perhaps a study and support group? I have just applied for the exam and have not yet set a date, but about in 3 months is when I will be taking it. I would love to be in communication with others in the same boat! I hope there is at least one other nurse out there! Thanks!

I am about to take the CCRN exam this December 6. I've been studying for a month now, two hours everyday except monday and thursday(that's my rest day, coincides with my rest day from work). Im using Dennison and the AACN Core Curriculum. I think the best way to study for it is to get yourself familiar with the type of questions the CCRN exam has. That what Im doing right now, just answering similar questions one at a time, then reading their rationale. I'll let you guys know.

Hi sinus.rhythm!!

Love your screen name!! Thank you for posting. You are right about practicing with questions, then you are ready for the regime. Dr Laura suggests people often fail just because they get mentally tired if they haven't done the "mental aerobics" before the test of doing 150 questions every day a while before the test itself.

Also, another tip, if you don't know the answer to the question, it is often the longest answer.

Keep us informed! Are you in the military? Are you enjoying studying? Has it empowered your practice?

Happy studying!! Take care.

Hi Dawn,

Thank you so much for your prompt reply! I just ordered Dr Laura's DVD course and the Pass CCRN 3rd Edition. I couldn't wait to get my hands on them. By the way, I just received Dr. Laura's review book in mail today and I finished the first 25 questions for cardio. I got about 76% on them. I'm sure practicing CCRN exam type of questions will help me more than reading through the Dennison Pass CCRN book (Yes, that's what I was doing the last 3 weeks to review the cardio section). If I had found this thread earlier, I would have been more efficient in my review process. Now that I heard the other people's opinion and experience with their study for CCRN, I felt like I'm on the right track to tackle the CCRN exam. Thank you all the fellow CCRNs and soon-to-be CCRNs for all you great input! I'll let you know how I'm doing along the process. Now I'll go back to review the rationale and do more practice questions! Good luck for all your study!

HI, all, just wanted to thanks for all the great information on CCRN. I have been in the CVSICU since July, and just off orientation this week. I am planning on taking the CCRN sometime next summer. I think that after reading the thread....well most of the thread :p. I know what materials I'll bet getting to study with.

btw: congrats to everyone that got their CCRN...Yeah!

Thank you for posting!! How is it going in ICU? You can also post interesting patients here if you would like or questions you have. I know there are several people in the process of getting CCRN (like yourself) and this thread can be used for any sharing or discussion that would be useful in expanding all of our knowledge. This thread is for nurses who want to be as competent and able as possible no matter where we are in the process of the CCRN certification. (even if we already have it!).

Welcome in!! Good luck off orientation!! Please keep posting between now and whenever you start the official CCRN process.

:welcome: ;););)

Hey Dawn and the rest of the CCRN thread crew

Sorry its been so long, i've been so busy the last couple months I can't think straight, with school, work and our first baby (my wife is 12 weeks along now)

I was accepted into med school, but I was also accepted into Case Western's CRNA program....and...after much thought I think I'm going to go with Nurse Anesthesia. Maybe one of the few people who ever turned down med school for nursing, haha.

I scanned the thread, keep up the good work everyone that is studying.....the test is not as hard as people would make you believe

......just do the review questions religiously, watch the videos, and you're made in the shade!

Burnt! Congrats to you and CRNA school!!!

Look at all the new people we have on the thread with the great goal of getting their CCRN!! Hooray!!! That makes me so happy!!

I have been getting some very encouraging feedback from people at work since getting my CCRN cert., and many people have now decided to take the test and have borrowed my studying supplies. They also took my picture and put it on a "congratulations" page on our website ;) So this makes me happy because before I took it I didn't always get the best feedback about me taking the test.

Anyways, congrats to Burnt2 on getting into CRNA school!! I saw your thread in the CRNA forums, I lurk there a lot!! Do you start in 08 or 09? I assume 08, but on one of your replies you said 09..?

Good luck to everyone studying, we all know what you are going through and you will do great!!

Thanks for the welcome Dawn. It's going well in the ICU so far. Great support and orientation process. I'm not online too often, but will try to keep up in the forum.

Thanks to you too, MICUNurse.

So far all is well, and I'm lovin' it.

Hey, burnt2...Congrat's on CRNA school. I hope to go in two years myself. I think you will find that you made the right choice...of course I'm a little biased towards nursing :)
