Anyone currently attending Monroe College?

U.S.A. New York

Hello Everyone!

I've just received my acceptance into Monroe College's Progressive Nursing Program for the Winter semester! So I just figured id make a thread for any other people who are currently attending or have recently gotten accepted into the program.

For those of your currently attending, how is it going so far?

Is there anything I should know before the semester starts?

Id love to hear how everyone is doing and possibly get to know my fellow nursing students!

I'm in my last year and the program is def doable, I worked full time and attended classes, but of course, I completed every single prerequisite prior to entering the program which made it easier because I didn't have class 5x a week damn near all day.

Hi lovely! So I'm almost done with my first semester in the progressive track. I am a transfer student so my I had one less class compared to some of my other peers. From my personal experience it may be possible to work weekends, but maybe not much more than that. I'm not sure how things were pre-covid, but with this semester I have class 5x a week and they do require us to complete ALOT of assignments each week to compensate for the virtual learning. Combine that with the exams we have every two weeks, the workload can add up between assignments, and studying.  So I would say you can try working but you'd have to be very disciplined with yourself.

Sorry my previous reply was supposed to be answering you directly, not Nicole ?

Awesome! I’m also in the accelerated program and a transfer. Did they give you our schedule yet? It’s pretty intense

Hey. Do you mind sharing what your stats were? I'm really interested in the accelerated program, but I'm not sure how competitive it is. If you've already started, how is the program so far?

Is this program only available for students who have all their prereqs? Also is the new rochelle or bronx location better? Im looking to apply for their progressive option.

These are the requirements to get into the program.

ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) scores at the proficient level with a 70 or higher

High school transcripts

Evidence of satisfactory grades (C+ or higher) in algebra, biology/living environment and Chemistry at the high school or college level

College transcripts with a grade point average of 2.75 or higher preferred for candidates who have previously earned college credits

All the other classes like psychology and sociology can be taken with your nursing classes however I do not recommend that because it is a lot of work already. The nursing program is only at the Bronx location.

wow thank you for the reply. I took psychology and sociology in college and did well in both courses but it was a long time ago.

You're welcome these classes should be accepted because they don't usually expire like the sciences do. If you have other classes you can take I would suggest that if you have the yime now to clept out so that you don't have to spend an entire semester taking them.

Thank you. I've never taken the TEAS test. Does Monroe offer the test or do I have to search elsewhere for it? Im so clueless when it comes to admissions and requirements for nursing schools because there are so many and different schools want different things. I've been out of school for yearsss. My last time in school was for EMS. Im currently a NYS EMT.

Monroe does offer the tea exam almost everyday on campus. It's like $100 and change and last for up to one year. If you type in Monroe nursing program they have everything on that website as far as admission requirements and getting into the program. I suggest that you fill out the application for the school itself online and then contact someone in the nursing department directly for further information. You have to stay on top of them because there are plenty of people applying and they are not going to reach out to you directly to see where you are in your process or push you submit your paperwork. Chances now are a little higher to get in especially if you have all the requirements and also because the cohorts are a lot larger than when I started there was only 13 and now they're up to 30.
