Hi,
Since there was a very extensive thread last year about application process to Yale, I thought I would start a new thread for 2009 hopefuls. I am working on my application and wanted to know who else chose Yale as one of their options. What program? How is the application process going? Essay writing? Any anxieties? I am applying to the Adult Advanced Practice Nursing but still deciding on the specialty. The hardest part for me is the essay writing as English is not my first language, but I have been working on it for some time now and getting close to finishing the final version. Anyone else wants to share?
I haven't owned a car in 2 years--don't need one in SF! And I really don't want to! But they said at the orientation that we would need it for traveling to clinicals because they might be in other cities & that they try to give the best placement possible so they don't limit it to New Haven. They said you needed to have a dependable car.
Regarding whether you need a car, I would strongly recommend it. I live in LA now but grew up in CT (not far from New Haven). You can't rely on public transportation to get you around CT (outside of New Haven), and it did sound very likely from what I heard from current students on interview day that many clinicals will be scattered all around. You'd likely have to rely on others to give you a ride to/from clinicals quite frequently, which is something you probably don't want to have to do (and could present a problem if you are the only one assigned to a specific clinical site).
I was thinking of moving down at the beginning of August and finding an apartment with people in the program since I don't think I'll be able to go back to the dorm life (one tiny room to live in) after being in an apartment for the past 4 years. I'll start thinking about it more once I've made the decision to definitely go there. But SOOOO excited to finally find out and was definitely bouncing around my lab today in excitement....
Hi Everyone!
I am also considering living in Harkness. I recently moved all of my stuff from DC back to the South and I don't think I wanna move everything again so soon. I got to tour the dorms while I was up there and they were much nicer than I thought they would be and very convenient to YSN. It would probably be a lot better if a few of us lived there as well (for studying, social life etc)! Of course there are ups and downs to each living situation, but I would love to keep hearing what everyone is doing (feel free to PM me as well)!

I GOT IN for the adult psych/mental health!! yayyy!! and el-do, I'm also going to be deciding between Yale and UCSF (if I get in). I don't know how I'm going to decide b/c there's so many different factors but on the interview day, I was definitely much more impressed w/ Yale than with UCSF (in terms of how they presented themselves). I'm sure that whatever decision I end up making will be great and I don't think there's really a way I could make a mistake but it's still a big decision. For now I'm going to enjoy my acceptance and think long and hard about it for the next few weeks...
Congrats to everyone that got in! And yayy for the other psych/mh people, I'm so excited!
I live on campus apartment at the moment since I am a Yale student. It is walking distant to YSN. If you want to do that you need to apply early when the application becomes available, since these babies go fast (http://www.yale.edu/gradhousing/). Currently, I pay 914 for a 1 bedroom and it includes everything. If you get a two bedroom, you can get a roommate. You would end up paying like 500/month. I would recommend to look for an apartment, get a roommates from Yale. Some places will help find a roommate from Yale. As far as cars go, You definitely cant rely on public transportation in CT. I have to see where my clinical will be before buying or leasing one. I am hoping to get one in my second year not the first.

I am leaning towards living in an off-campus apartment in East Rock or Wooster Square. But, I am definitely open to living on-campus as well. The thing is I already have furniture that I would rather not give away or sell. I have a dining room set and a couch and my own bed, etc. That's all stuff I would rather keep. Anyways, anyone interested in perhaps looking for apartments together...let me know by pm!
Hi, I was talking about on campus apartment which are unfurnished. I dont know anything about the dorms if they are furnished.
Oh I was just talking out my own reservations about living in on-campus housing- not really responding to anyone in particular :). But it's great to know that the on-campus apartments are unfurnished...they would definitely be an option in that case.
I was accepted too!! Horray! I'm in for nurse-midwifery. I'm super excited, and although I am still trying to decide between some other schools, I think I might be leaning towards Yale... I'd love to have roommates and am interested in all different types of housing!
Is anyone else having a rough time choosing between Yale, Columbia, Hopkins and Emory?? I'd love some input. :)

Ok schmooper! I actually don't know much about the dorms since my interview was during the lecture on Yale/New Haven. So I'm going to have to do some research and figure it out! Maybe post on that Yale forum...Anways, I'll be sure to let you know.
Also, with the Amtrak and buses and how small New Haven is, I didn't think about bringing a car (especially since shipping it from the West Coast may be pretty costly...). And Yale seems to have good transportation for its students!
