Hi,
Since there was a very extensive thread last year about application process to Yale, I thought I would start a new thread for 2009 hopefuls. I am working on my application and wanted to know who else chose Yale as one of their options. What program? How is the application process going? Essay writing? Any anxieties? I am applying to the Adult Advanced Practice Nursing but still deciding on the specialty. The hardest part for me is the essay writing as English is not my first language, but I have been working on it for some time now and getting close to finishing the final version. Anyone else wants to share?
Hey all!
I see I'm a little late coming back to the forum, but I was accepted to FNP and am planning to attend Yale!
I am also interested in what others are doing for housing...at this point I'm hoping to find a roommate or 2 for an off-campus apartment. Anyone interested? During interviews I stayed with some current GEPNs who had a house not too far from YSN and loved it because they could walk back and forth easily...ideally I'd love to get something like that, but would be open to the other neighborhoods too.
Congratulations everyone! I can't wait to meet many of you this fall!
abbybaby, i'd like to hear how the emory open house went. I can't PM yet but you can email me if you want -Michelle

I'm definately up for finding some roomates and locating an apartment within walking distance of YSN. Does anybody know if its difficult to find an apartment nearby the nursing building?
I am definitely going to Yale (since it was the only school I applied to) and I live in CT. However since I live about 1 hour away from New Haven, I will be relocating closer to New Haven in October when my lease is up. I am not up for a 2 hour daily commute. I will probably look to move to one of the neighboring towns like Wallingford, Cheshire, North Branford, West Haven, etc. I have a car here in CT so I will be more than happy to share the 3 extra seats with any of you if we have our clinicals at the same or nearby sites.
abbybaby, i would love to hear about your experiences at both emory and vanderbilt and also hear what you are thinking with making the decision. i don't know how to pm though... do you have facebook? if so, you can find me on there! i'm the only megan danielson at the university of michigan. :) thanks!
Hi All,
Regarding housing options, I expect that Yale Grad housing will fill up pretty quickly. I looked at some apartments in New Haven near Yale. It seems getting a roommate(s) is definitely the way to go. Rents with "all utilities included" are ideal since there'll be little to no variation in the amout you pay each month. I'd love to have between one and 3 roommates so after we get some more info from YSN re: housing, orientation, finAid, we can make those determinations. Meanwhile, i'm going to start calling some of the housing agents on Monday for more accurate pricing, move-in details etc.
abbybaby, I would love to hear your impressions of the Emory visit as well! My account here says I can't PM, so if you're emailing Miche, count me in! [email protected]. Also, Miche & Megandan, if you email me, I will be able to forward you the info I got from the two Emory students. Megandan, I tried to send you a msg on FB but don't know if you ever got it.
As far as housing by YSN goes, I talked quite a bit about that with the girls I was staying with who lived near YSN, and they pointed out a few different apartment buildings near the house they were renting, so there seem to be some options. They also recommended trying to get a place with at least heat included because apparently heat in the winter can be REALLY expensive. They also told me that last year someone started a Google group so people could communicate easily about housing, etc. It seems like that might be a good idea for us once people start to make their decisions about whether or not they will be attending YSN.
Lars23, those are all great reasons. The flexibility is a really nice option, and especially the ability to work after that first year. With Yale, no work til the summer after the second year! I'm still waiting to hear from the Sch of Public Health. One thing that is really annoying about that dual degree is that the two schools are on different schedules -- one on the quarter system & one on semesters -- meaning your breaks are cut off and limiting what your opps are for service learning projects. At Yale, it did sound like there was some flexibility re taking some of the required nursing courses thru the sch of pub health -- such as statistics & research methods. And there would be no extra charge for taking classes at that other school. My interviewer also told me not to give up hope about being able to do both the MSN/MPH at Yale -- she thought it was still a possibility. They seem to change their mind a lot about the dual program... Please post your thoughts re the JH visit and your decision when you've finalized it! Thanks!

Hey Everyone,
I am trying to decide between Yale, Emory, and Vanderbilt. I was able to visit both Emory and Vanderbilt for their Open Houses, and if you are interested on my impressions of either PM me! It is a tough decision that I think is going to depend a lot on financial aid (at least for me!) While I am from the South and love it, I have lived all over and have no problem relocating anywhere. Hopefully our financial aid packages will arrive soon!
