Anyone applying to Yale GEPN program for Fall 2009?

Published

Hi,

Since there was a very extensive thread last year about application process to Yale, I thought I would start a new thread for 2009 hopefuls. I am working on my application and wanted to know who else chose Yale as one of their options. What program? How is the application process going? Essay writing? Any anxieties? I am applying to the Adult Advanced Practice Nursing but still deciding on the specialty. The hardest part for me is the essay writing as English is not my first language, but I have been working on it for some time now and getting close to finishing the final version. Anyone else wants to share?

WannabePNP,

I applied to two lenders (Wells Fargo and Citigroup) for a private loan, and got pre-approved on both. I haven't signed any promissory notes yet, because I am going through the fine print on the terms pages to make sure I pick the best lender. I spoke to both lenders and once you get pre-approved, you have 6-9 months to sign the documents, otherwise the loan is not completed and you can cancel your application at any time. I spoke to a person at Yale financial aid office and she said that generally May or June is when she would recommend applying. As long as the funds get disbursed to Yale by August 1st, they don't care when you apply. I hope this helps.

Thanks, Lilly!

Hey Lilly - here is the link to the premiums for the prescription coverage: http://www.yale.edu/yhp/med_services/student_premiums.html It looks like last year it was $451 for the year...I wonder if it will stay the same this year?

Also, when I checked I think the Red Cross CPR course is valid for a year and American Heart Association is good for 2 years. I don't know that it actually matters, but I just did it for 2 years so I don't have to worry about doing it again next year!

Thanks Momomonny! I signed up for the CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider through the Red Cross and it stated that it was a 2 year certification unless you are a lifeguard than it was only for 1 year. Yale said that either Red Cross or American Hear Association will work. Thank you for the link to the health insurance rates. So with the prescription coverage, the total cost (I think the rates went up a little this year) will be about $2300. For two people, if I wanted to add my husband, around $5700. I will have to check my husband's insurance through his work to see which costs less and compare overall coverages. The Yale Health Plan looks like a great coverage though...

Has anyone decided whether to waive out of the anatomy course? Do we have to decide now or can we wait until classes start? I've taken anatomy, but I feel like it can't hurt to have a refresher. On the other hand, I've heard it's useful to have the free time by not taking the class... and I'm sure that we'll need all the free time we can get the first year.

Anyone else undecided, or know whether we need to choose now? thanks.

They are now accepting application. Just make sure you read the fine prints before you apply. The deadline is approaching.

Did anyone in this forum apply for the GNP program? Did you get in? If you're willing, could you tell me your stats (GPA, GRE scores, prereqs, what you've been doing since graduating from undergrad)? I'm applying for 2010 and I'm terrified I don't have what it takes to cut it.

Did you get in? I'm terrified myself about applying to Yale...I just applied for the GEPN GNP program for Fall 2011 and feel the same way...what were your stats?

Hey Everyone,

I am trying to decide between Yale, Emory, and Vanderbilt. I was able to visit both Emory and Vanderbilt for their Open Houses, and if you are interested on my impressions of either PM me! It is a tough decision that I think is going to depend a lot on financial aid (at least for me!) While I am from the South and love it, I have lived all over and have no problem relocating anywhere. Hopefully our financial aid packages will arrive soon!

Abby

Abby,

I know it has been a while since you posted this, but in my search for information I came across your post about deciding between Yale, Vanderbilt, and Emory. I am currently deciding between these same schools and I am wondering where you decided to go and why you decided to go there versus the other schools. Thank you for your help!
